Looks like a Philadelphia Deringer, formerly made by CVA.
Here's mine. Bought it 35 years ago for 17.00. It is a CVA. Has a rifled barrel.
It is a .45 and I shoot a .445 ball and 40 grs Goex FFF is a fine load. Even
carried it as a CCW for a while. Really shoots good.

You could also try contacting Deer Creek directly even if it's just to find out what they have to offer. Be sure to specify that you want a .45 caliber Philadelphia Derringer kit and not a finished pistol. Their phone is 765-525-6181.

kwhi43@kc.rr.com, you used 40 grains of powder in your derringer???:what:
That seems like a REAL stiff load for such a short barrel. Dang, you could have used it as a flame-thrower with that much powder!
What were y'all lookin' to anchor and cook with a "one-shot kill"?:D
Believe me, really doesn't matter - it isn't burning 40 grains. ....... And a good thing too.

Yes, it does put out a lot of fire. I've scared more than one person with this
gun & load. You ought to see it at night!!

I'm thinking you are wasting 1/2 or more of your powder charge with each shot at 40 grains per. A more suitable load would be in the neighborhood of ten to fifteen grains.......... unless you just like the fireworks. :D

Acorn ~ It being a .45 cal. wouldn't a little stronger charge than 15 be better? I shoot a .44 cal. and use at least 22 grains and up to 30.

Sagetown, 15 grains is plenty I think for that short barrel. Its only 2-7/8" from the face of the breechplug to the muzzle. Not a whole lot of barrel to enable much powder to burn before the ball exits. With 15 grains, mine will put a .440 ball plumb through a piece of 1" plywood at 10 feet.

The Box O' Truth penetration testing illustrates the difference between the 30 grain and 40 grain performance of the Philadelphia Derringer on water jugs.
That's one gallon of H2O penetration vs. four gallons of H2O penetration which almost matches the 5 gallon H2O penetration of a .38 snubbie!
More powder does actually create more power which could be benefical for self defense and the penetration of heavy clothing for instance.
Mine penetrated the door of a old cabinet we had hauled off. Then the bullet bounced off a twobyfour and came back through the cabinet door. Then it hit me in the thumb.
Later I had a bounce back from a tree hit me dead center in the chest. I haven't shot it since. Don't even know where it is.
I know, my fault, not the gun's fault.

That's okay, I prefer to carry my 9mm. :D Neat gun, very nice to look at. Probably fun to shoot. But, we've advanced in firearms design and especially carry weapons since that one was in blue prints. :D

One thing for sure... Whether it penetrates 4 gallons of water or 5, It sure penetrated Lincoln's head and changed history.
I wonder if CVA still makes these kits...

www.thepossibleshop.com They had them for sale, the price is right, but they are out of stock at the moment. The gun is made by Jukar of Spain. I will warn you, you will have to do a little gunsmithing to get the hammer to hit the nipple correctly. Takes a .440 patched ball and about 15/20 grains of powder, the barrel is rifled, and it does go BOOM!
