Recent Mass Shootings - Gun Involved?

I read that the German kid used a Beretta 92, but all I can find about the Alabama guy is this (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090312/D96SEVD80.html):

Many residents of this quiet, close-knit farming community could hear the rapid crackling of automatic gunfire that killed nine of their neighbors.

but authorities said he armed himself with four guns - two assault rifles with high-capacity magazines taped together, a shotgun and a .38-caliber pistol - and may have planned a bigger massacre than he had time to carry out.

Anyone got specifics?

This past Sunday's church shooting in Illinois just across the border from Saint Louis involved a completely Assault Weapons Ban approved .45 acp Glock with 3 ban approved 10 round mags. Fortunately the gun jammed on the fourth round of the first mag.

Didnt know the gun jammed, just thought he hit him on the 5th shot but by that time some guy was there and the subduing/stabbing ensued.

I'm sure the media is having a field day with all of these events and on a sad note the CCW for Illinois didnt pass, makes me glad I live on the right side of the river.

In reference to the Alabama shooter, on the radio (ABC I believe ... whatever national news plays at the top of the hour on a local talk radio station) they played comments from someone in law enforcement down there that said he had an AK-47 [then the announcer's voice interrupted and said with a tinge of glee in his voice "an Assault Rifle"] and that he "opened up a burst on us".

I read in one article, "he fired a 30 round burst"...my rifle doesn't have that setting.

I heard from some officer talking on the news that the guy in Alabama used an SKS and a "BOOSH-master".

What purpose would taping two rifles together provide? Other than help make "assault rifle" owners look like a bunch of self-proclaimed Rambos.

I wonder if the shooter in Illinois had an FOID card?

Duke of Doubt
March 12, 2009, 05:47 PM
The initial account from Texas had the cop claiming it was an AK-47. Yes, of course it turned out he had an SKS and a Bushmaster, with not a Kalashnikov pattern in sight -- not even a Saiga.

It always amuses me to listen to what people that have zero knowledge of guns will say when describing one.

Of course it would be much funnier if it didn't happen right after a masacre and if it wasn't so damaging to the right to own them.:banghead:

It said the mags were taped together. So he just had to pop it out and slide it over a bit to stick in the new mag.

You guys want to know what kind of firearms the bad guy used --SIMPLE -GO TO THE BRADY SITE--!!!!

They are dancing in the blood as we chat!!!

The guns used in yesterday's rampage shooting across Alabama a Bushmaster AR-15-style assault rifle and an SKS assault rifle are military-bred firearms developed for the specific purpose of killing human beings quickly and efficiently

Someday I'd like to take the Brady Bunch on a group tour of the cemeteries at Antietam or Gettysburg, then show them an 1860 Colt Army and an 1861 Springfield.

I saw an Alabama cop at a press conference and after saying he had a Bushmaster and an SKS he then said something along the lines of wondering why he had such guns and "we don't even have assault weapons".

That's possible with a mag clamp, but not with tape. Tape requires that the mags be upside down relative to each other, with the tops extending past the other's baseplate a little, Hollywood style. To reload, you have to remove it and flip it, making it considerably slower than reloading from a pouch.

No the Ill. shooter didn't have a FOID card.

Hmmm, then the federal 1968 omnibus crime bill and the Illinois firearms ownership identification code failed to protect a citizen's civil rights. I wonder what brilliant failure they will come up to ensure this never happens again?

The "news" media also said that this was the "worst" massacre in Alabama history. I guess they never heard of Fort Mims (Creek wars 1813).

There's always the 2008 SEC Championship, where so many brave Alabama boys were massacred by gators:

The media does glamorize this type of situation in a sick and twisted way. Giving the murderous bastard ANY media would only serve to inspire the next jib headed loser.

So what if you get fired from Wal-Mart ! Hell, I consider that a step in the right direction !

Calling the man a "survivalist" is media speak for "crazy SOB"

Everyone is a survivalist, only some are better at it. Emotionally AND physically.
