Also can the trigger weight be adjusted?
Thanks;)

Good sturdy basic revolver.
You can vary trigger pull by a combination of polishing and different springs.
But I have found that most M-10's are great just the way they are.

You know that old saying about, "everything you need and nothing you don't?" Well that accurately describes a Smith & Wesson Militaty & Police revolver (also known as the model 10 after 1957). I would suggest that your wife handle a model 10 or similar revolver to make sure it isn't "too big" before you buy one. Other then that you can't go wrong.

Classic Great Gun as others have said. Have her handle as they usually fit most people well. Grips available to fine tune for her.
Only problem is , your gonna get hooked on older K frame smiths, might as well order two to start off with, save some shipping and get the collection going from get- go. :)

Smith & Wesson model 10's with round butt's are getting
very scarce in my area; as I haven't seen one in several
years. Lot of police trade-ins floating around; so if you
can find a RB amongest them, it would be a great catch.

I'd buy. They use to be the favorite for converting into PPC guns. One of these days, I'm going to convert one of my guns.

I have had my 2" M10-11 for just over a month now. It was purchased new (Made in January of this year.) from CDNN for $280. It has rounded grip (RB) Uncle Mike's grips on it - really good to grab quickly. Great lockwork after ~1,000 dry/live fires and subsequent cleaning & lube. It developed a cylinder drag line - aka character line - and a scratch on the short ejector rod. My homebrew 158gr LRN & LSWC's hit near enough to POA that it makes a decent plate gun at 12yd, although it was bought as a 'house gun' (... like my .454 SRH was years ago, ha!). Now I need a 4"...

not a great pic but this is my oldest, an M&P(pre model 10) 1905 4th change shipped 9-7-34 in NIB condition. Get the 10, you will not be sorry.

OK, silly question, but how do you tell the difference between a round butt and a square butt. I've seen round and square in other models but the butts all look pretty square to me. Am I missing something?

Whenever I hear the term "Service Revolver", a 4" Mdl 10 is what pops to mind first.
Hard to beat...Decent calibre (.38Spl) good action, acuuracy, and handling. They can be shot loose, but it takes a REALLY long time with insanely powered loads.

You'll probably keep it anyway. :)

Pig....thanx for postin the pix.
Nobody...note that the backstrap on the square butt is still angling to the rear at the bottom.
And the backstrap on the round butt curves inward toward the front at the bottom.
Observance needed....there are square butt wrap around grips that will fit round butt frames...gives false appearance of square butt frame.

Also there is what appears to be a square butt K Frame hanging right above the cylinder of the round butt.

Wonderful pics and explanation guys! I really appreciate it! All this time I'd been looking at the bottom portion of the handle and not paying much attention to the curvature of the backstrap, as well as being confused by wraparound aftermarket handles. This was really great, now I'm "in the know." ;) Pretty sad that I've been shooting for 25 years and never knew the difference. It never really came up as an issue for me until recently though.
