I am buying a Witness 10mm from kbr80 (http://www.thehighroad.org/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=4941) and would like to hear stories, info, anything of relavance to Witness 10mm's and 10mm shooting in general.

I know its a stout round. How hard on the shooter is it? How hard will this gun (4.5in barrel, 10rd) be to CCW in jeans and a T-shirt on a 6ft 280-ish guy? Any recomendations on where to put it when CCW-ing?

As you can tell, I have never owned a handgun before....:o

Thanks,

I've owned a Witness in wonderfinish for about 2 years. Have carried it
in Cen-Dex kydex and High Noon, as well as NULL horsehide holsters.
More recently a H.B.E. custom holster.

I'm almost your size. Unless an IWB holster, you need a cover garment.
A photo type vest from S. Africa does the trick for me.

The gun is comparable to a CZ97B, so those holsters work for it.
Some people use shoulder holsters from Falco and High Noon.

I've never had a malfunction with the Witness, basically a larger
CZ75 with some improvements- according to many.

Recoil is mild, due to the all steel frame. There is a wide range
of bullets or handloading 135-220 gr. Factory ammo selection
is improving each year.

The Witness is my 'wood gun' that I use in places i don't want
to take my cherised Cee-Zeds. It is durable, reliable and really
fun to shoot with most any load, especially the Silvertips.

Feel free to email me for more info and pics!

Moparmike,
Congrats on your decision to buy the Witness 10mm!
Had I not just jumped on Wildalaska's P7 deal I'd have gone after the Witness.

There are quite a few 10mm enthusiasts that have great things to say about accuracy and shooting pleasure that this round offers.

I don't have a 10mm but do have a Witness .45. It has been an exceptional weapon and has had no malfunctions in almost 1,000 rounds.
The 10mm is very similar to my .45.
I have heard of a few lemons with Witness pistols, but most run fine out of the box.
The 10mm/.45 is a big, heavy gun so I don't carry it. But you're a big guy and I'm sure that others here can give you advice on concealment rigs, though.

Good luck,

Had my Witness with Wonderfinish for about as long as CZF.

The biggest problem with them is that, from the factory, the recoil springs are simply too weak. They are, I believe, 14 pound springs, and if you're going to be shooting anything even remotely full-powered and factory loaded, you need to have at least an 18 or 20 pound spring in there.

If you don't, how do you feel about having your brass go 40 and 50 feet?

Even with full-power ammo the Witness is pretty easy shooting because it's big and heavy.

Mine has the fixed sights, which give a very good sight picture and allow for rapid follow-up shots.

The trigger is kind of crappy, and I have to admit that I've gotten used to having a decocker on my semi-autos, but it's accurate, and the round REALLY removes bowling pins from a table.

Told by the seller that it has a "20lb wolffe recoil spring." So, maybe it will be good like that. I am a very unexperienced handgun shooter, so I basically dont know enough to get myself in trouble even.

Woe be unto the perp who walks into my house uninvited after I get this pistol...

8mm w/ SP S&B ammo on buttcuff? Check.
Loaded 12ga? Check.
Loaded put-some-hurt-on-him pistol? Check.

All next to bed? Check.:what: :scrutiny: :D

Next to bed because I dont have a better place to put them at the moment. (Crowded room...)

I can't tell you anything about the 10mm, but I can tell you if your witness is as good as the ones I had in 9mm and .45acp you'll like it a lot.

I was at a steel plate match, and I took a few guns, just in case.
I had some trouble knocking the plates over with 357SIG, and .45 acp.
So I grabbed my trusty 10mm glock, and shot the course.
You should have seen those plates dance.
After that, I respected the 10mm round a little more.
I had a witness 10mm, and mine was a lemon, be careful.

Good, because that's probably what you'd end up putting in there anyhow.

You might also want to do a Search on GlockTalk's 10Ring for info on the 10mm Witness. 10mm Glock fans who also own a 10mm Witness hang out there and have posted about their experiences with this pistol before.
