Way back in the 70s, an unusual set of grips was marketed for the M1911. They were wood and had the grim reaper holding an hour glass laser etched on each grip panel. They were featured in most of the gun magazines of the time. Does anyone remember these grips? Are they in production anywhere?

Yes, I remember them well. Many times I came near to buying a set for my own 1911. However, since my gun is a CARRY gun, I felt that the grim reaper image might not sit well with the judge if I ever had to use that gun in a defensive situation. Still.....those grips were cool.

My thoughts exactly, not prudent on a carry weapon, but very cool on a range or competition gun. I remember something in the old ad saying that the laser-etching program would be destroyed and the grips not reissued. I'm glad to see I didn't dream those grips.
