Gun mounted mag-light and recoil question

I want to fix up a coach gun with a light, for the wife. I have seen the momentary/remote switches and mounts for a standard mag-light. My question is how dose the bulb hold up to recoil?

I don't know about the maglight, but there are comparable LED flashlights now that are as bright and even focusable. Like the Electro Lumens Blaster III which is reviewed here (http://www.dansdata.com/ledlights14.htm)

-I have rather wondered about this subject also.
Most all flashlights I have seen simply clamp regular batteries in-between a contact on the light and a spring in the tail end. It would seem like if you mounted them directly on any gun, the batteries and light contact are going to get severely pounded. The "top" end of these batteries is just a piece of metal stamped into shape, and I don't see it holding that shape very long...... It would make more sense to use the smallest flashlight useful--LED lamp run by only two AA or AAA batteries. It would be better to have a flashlight body that allowed inserting the batteries in sideways, perpendicular to the boreline--so that they would be suported by their sides from recoil, and not on their ends..... Has there ever been a system of flashlights made particularly to withstand firearm-mounting?

Surefire.
really though. a 12 guage recoil aint that bad an shes using if for HD.
now are talking slappin a 3D cell mag light on the bad boy or just one of those little 2 AA cell mini mags on there. cuz if thats the case there a dime a dozen it dont spontaneously blow up the bulb an they make a pig tail that replaces the back cap an has a little push button you can glue, tape, zip tie to the stock.
experiment an let us know what works
necessity may be the mother of invention but no one needed a TV! Imagination!

When I was a kid. I use to blacktape a regular flashlight to a single shot 12ga and spotlight rabbits. That’s what’s got me wanting to set up a coach gun, the beam of the flashlight (actually a circle inside the beam) and the pattern of the shotgun was the same, and made for very quick shots. It worked fine until the light went out. I figure the mag-light has an adjustable beam and would be tougher than the old flashlights while providing all the light needed in a home defense scenario.
PS:I was figuring on the mini-mag

I don't think you need to worry about the bulb in a Maglite. I use Maglites extensively at work and am about as abusive as possible with them. I occasionally drop my my mini-mag down several stories before it hits something and it keeps on working. Its been known to bounce off several obstructions on its way down and remain hidden for a week or two until someone comes across it and gives it back.
Edit: Gotta work on the spelling....someday.

I use my HD Mossy 500 with a MagLite clamped on the front of the mag tube (that's why its called a Mag lite, right?;) ) with one of those little pressure swithced mounted on the barrel.
I used it in my local 3-gun event this weekend and forgot to take off the light (I usually do). I loaned the shotgun to a guy who forgot his. It went through 5 stages with an average of 6 shots ber stage for 2 guys. Lessee, that's...ummm...60 shells of 12 gauge.
Light works fine.

Whatever you do, don't use a krypton bulb. The regular bulbs are fine, but the krypton ones break when the light falls just a few feet.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Maglight without a krypton bulb, it is.
I'm seriously thinking about taping the light on. It just seems that it would be better if it were closer to the axes of the barrel's. It's going to be a purely utility gun, any thoughts on that?

Streamlight, taclight and others make mounts for many brands of shotguns.
