I was just wandering if using a bolt action 22-250 during high powered rifle season in Pennsylvania was leagal. Some one please let me know. thanks

Yes. Any manually operated CENTER FIRE firearm is legal for deer hunting.

You sure? I was under the impression that you couldn't hunt with any .22 cal here...

Looks like I was wrong:

: (1) Manually operated center-fire rifles, handguns and shotguns with all-lead bullet or ball, or a bullet designed to expand on impact; (2) muzzleloading long gun of any type or caliber; and (3) long, recurve or compound bows with a peak draw weight not less than 35 pounds, and crossbows with a draw weight of not less than 125 pounds, and not more than 200 pounds. Bowhunters must use arrows equipped with broadheads having an outside diameter of at least 7/8-inch with no less than two cutting edges, which shall be in the same plane throughout the length of the cutting surface. Crossbow hunters may use bolts tipped with broadheads of cutting edge design. The use of buckshot is illegal, except in the Southeast Special Regulations Area.


No mention of caliber restrictions - as long as it is centerfire.

I think that at some point this was a restriction in PA, but it must have been changed. I don't remember when. It never applied to any arms I used ,so I didn't pay it much attention. I do remember overhearing a conversation about this between my father and uncles when I was just starting to hunt. (circa 1968 or so)

I dunno,it`s possible but my Grandpa deer hunted with a Savage 99 in .22 Hi-Power on many occasions since the late `40s. Course maybe it wasn`t legal then and he just figured :neener: :D Marcus

I started hunting deer in the late 1970s in Pennsylvania. There were no caliber restrictions on rifles back then, either.
