Hunting skills have been a huge benefit to my life too.
There sure are a lot of gun owners who don't hunt and have never killed anything bigger than a mosquito. I think if more learned to hunt we'd have a lot less of these silly "which caliber is best" and "one shot stop" questions.

One of the reasons my grandkids got introduced to the ways of the wild and things that go bang n boom. Not only fun but basic survival anywhere.

Wish I could develop the patience to hunt. Just not one of my virtues...:(
Damn good story. Need more like that.

It's not just fun, it's an adventure, and basic survival skills as Sam said.

is all zeroed in and ready, as is my oldest boy's Rem. Mod 12, next boy's Ruger 77/22, next boy's Stevens Favorite, and next boy's Marlin 19Y. Nothing better than taking your boy squirrel hunting.
As soon as the author mentioned the waving branch I knew what was up. It's amazing how squirrel hunting teaches you to see.
Got my first deer that way....saw an ear flick at 75 yds, with no deer visible, and was able to sneak into position for a shot, all because I had squirrel-hunter's eyes. What a great article.
