Just found a deal on a Brazilian SW 1917 I'm going to go look at this week. Anyone know where to get original or reproduction half moon clip carriers?
Already have a nice repro holster.

Try Gun Parts Corporation.
I believe that S&W still sells half moon clips.
Brownell's is another possibility.
Or....
are you talking about the Doughboy web gear carrier, the one that held 24 clipped rounds?
If that's what you want, I have no idea...

Hum...
OK, maybe it was the pasteboard boxes that held 24 rounds from the arsenal, with the ammo already clipped...

Yeah those web pouches. Did they make something like that in leather for officers?

I don't think the half-moon pouches were ever made in leather.
Officers were the ones getting the automatics and fancy leather.
Working guys were getting the 1917s.
A note on the web pouch:
There is a parge loop on the back for a GI pistol belt. There is also the snap like a double mag pouch to prevent it from sliding on the belt. Below that is a loop that is correctly sized for trouser belts
In the late 70s I carried a 3¾" 1917 in a Bianchi X-15 shoulder holster. The GI Half-Moon pouch carried upside own on the off side support strap workd splendly.

Standard speedloader pouches hold the clipped .45 ACP ammo nicely. I have a Safariland double pouch that neatly holds four six-round "full moon" clips, stacked two to a side. Should work as well for pairs of half-moon clips as well.
Best,
Johnny

I think Midway sells them. Also, you will want to get one of those little gadgets that helps you get the fired cases out of the moon clips. It will save you fingers and keep from bending the moon clips.

Here is a picture of mine. I replaced the little factory grips with a set of hugues. It shoots much better with these.

I have found that by using an HKS M25 speedloader with .45 Auto Rim ammo in a standard large speedloader case you can stack a full-moon clip on top of it.
The knob on the HKS helps hold the full-moon in place and the HKS is easier to grab out of the bottom of the pouch than if you had a full-moon on the bottom of the stack.
Just my tuppence.

$50?¿?¿! OUCH :what:
Seems like only yesterday that the one-third-moon clips were all the rage.
Now I can't even find a reference to them.
This thread has me wanting another 1917.
I found one in a shop near me this week.
Excellent condition, very good deep reblue. great bore...
But the most horrible trigger pull I have seen this side of a Mosin-Nagent. Oh well that's easy enough to fix.
All at a reasonable price.
I think it might just be Lay-A-Way time. :D

I saw one two weeks ago on a dealers website that was 90% for $250 I tried to jump on it but just missed it.
There's one at a local shop here for $300 but it has been reblued. Nice job though. I an considering it but money is tight until after the holidays.

Boy, it's been way to long since I've taken mine out and exercised it. I think I'll do that next week. Mine has some cosmetic flaws, but it shoots like champ. I put a decelorator grip on it, the factory wood was just too little.
