I have a few questions for BPS owners:

1. Have you ever had any parts break? If so what? And how much abuse did the gun receive before that happened?

2. Have you ever had any malfunctions? (short stroking, that kind of thing) if so how badly was the action tied up? How difficult was the malfunction to clear?

I have shot a few BPSes (what the heck is the plural of BPS?!), but I'm not nearly as familiar with them as I am with the 870, though I am favorably impressed the gun. I've been thinking about picking up one for an odd project.

Think Ithaca M37 withh twin action bars. Don't have one, but several left handed friends do. No reported problems - but these are hunting guns.

Agree with AL, think 37...just with real nice blue and wood. Had a shooter that brought his out, nice shooter, we all shot it for a good while, just passed it around when at the club, may get an easy 500 rds through it in a days time. This went on for bit, never a problem...was pretty much smooth from start, real smooth , broken in and tested before he needed it for hunting season. IIRC the only thing he did was put swivels on so he could sling while wading to the duck blind.

No personal experience. But, I've got a good friend who has one specifically for duck-hunting and foul (fowl?) weather shooting (doesn't want to subject his beloved O/U to the elements).

He's had nothing but good things to say about it. He doesn't use it a ton, but he's been malfunction-free with it for at least the past 4 seasons.

Really nice ithaca 37, dual transfer bars; and don't forget, a tang mounted safety! My wife shoot's a gorgouse grade II in 20 gauge. Probably about 1500-2000 rounds through it, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. Course I kinda expect that from browning shotguns. I've probably got 3000-4000 out of my auto 5 so far!:D

I have had several of them, one in particular I beat the crap out of in bad weather and little or no maintenance. I shot probably 6-8K rounds through it with zero problems other than detail stripping the BPS is a nightmare. They are a miserable POS to put back together when done cleaning. The 10 gauge and the 3.5" 12 have a LOOOONG stroke and short stroking is an issue, but the 3" models are easy to shoot. A little heavier than typical too now that I think back.

Never had any probs that I recall. (Probly none that I don't recall either)
Mine is for sale but not because of any history of malfunctions.
