Man shot during break-in sentenced
Date: Mon, Oct 6, 2003,
5:52am (EDT-1) To:

A Woodruff man received a seven-year prison sentence Wednesday for a
break-in during which a Duncan-area resident shot him in the leg.

Timothy Doyle Huitt, 43, of Snowmill Road, pleaded guilty to
second-degree burglary in connection with the March 20, 2003 break-in at
the home of Margaret N. Summey, 65, of 161 McGill St.

Summey told investigators she was home about 1 p.m. when she heard her
doorbell ring. Prosecutors said Summey didn't see any cars or visitors
when she checked the door.

Moments later, she heard her back door jiggle and heard her trash can
being moved. Summey fired one shot with a .357 caliber pistol when she
saw a shadow making its way down a hallway toward her. She heard Huitt
scream, then locked herself in a nearby room to call 911. The burglar
fled the home.

Following a trail of blood, investigators apprehended Huitt on Barry
Shoals Road. He was wearing camouflage clothing and lying facedown on
the shoulder of the road.

"Ms. Summey was home alone and she found herself in a situation where
she was forced to protect herself," Assistant Solicitor Bob Coler said.
"I'm glad she wasn't hurt."

She should have aimed better. That would have been even better for all, except the burglar. Now I have to help feed and house this scumbag until for the next few years.

Back in the '60's my Grandmother had the same thing happen to her in Spartainburg SC. But she dropped him on the side porch before he got thru the door. He had already cut the phone and power and was coming in after her. Grandpa had just died and this scum bag would read the obits in the paper and choose his next victim that way.

Damn man... I'm glad she had the courage to defend herself and she is still alive. Give her some credit!

I'm sure this guy is going to end up being some guy's girlfriend in prison. Though I'd prefer him dead too, I'm glad he's off of the streets!

Is this the same one where the lady shot the guy with the .357 instead of her shotgun because she didn't want to mess up her new kitchen counters?

I'm just saying if she went to all the trouble of shooting him, she could have at least made the shot count. Maybe she just needs a shotgun.
