just curious what people carry for an EDC knife. I personally carry a Byrd Cara cara. I was considering a spyderco Delica but the Byrd was just so much cheaper and still high quality. As a side note if people are interested in knives you should check out Nutnfancys page on youtube. he also has a ton of gun reviews. http://www.youtube.com/user/nutnfancy

Any number of folders. My most-carried ever are a Wenger version of a Tinker, I think, a Case Medium Stockman, and a Kershaw JYD.

a Spyderco Tenacious or Native. where legal, a Spyderco Perrin Street Beat.

I carry a Gerber Multi-Tool as I find it more useful than a knife. As a back up I carry a Gerber 3-inch folder ( most often used to slice apples)

I carry a multitool as well, a SOG PowerLock, but I can't consider its knife blades useful for most of my purposes.

My main three are a Native, a Griptilian and an Endura. I like them all, and I carry them all, but if I had to pick a favorite, I might lean towards the endura.

It's my newest knife, so there is a little bias to it, but I find myself carrying it more and more simply because I like the simplicity of design. I actually prefer the blade shape and axis lock on my Grip, but the Endura gives me a larger blade shape in a much slimmer package. Whatever. Like I say, I like all three. Also, I carry a Victronix Super Tinker in my bag for utility purposes.

I normally like to go with the Kershaw Blur or the Spyderco Endura as regular EDC blades.

I like the extra grippiness of the handle, especially on the Blur, or the large finger ramp and jimping on the Endura. I been looking at the Spyderco Tenacious too as a larger EDC blade but haven't gotten around to buying one yet.

Occasionally when I have to give presentations, meetings and all that horrible stuff and dress up smarter. I can throw my Kershaw Leek on the inside pocket of my jacket out of the way. I hate having to do such things, but it comes as part of the job. :(

When I am doing more of my normal everyday work though I tend to stick with a Swiss Tool X nowadays, that I just have on my belt or clip it to a carabiner with the lanyard loop.

I really like the Kershaw Scallion series of knives. I have had a couple of them and they are great general use knives. Not made for really tough work but they are good for everyday carry.

Limeyfellow
March 18, 2009, 01:34 PM
The Scallion is nice, but a little too small for my hands. The Leek or Shallot fits far better. If you got medium to small hands however the Scallion is a good choice for a light use EDC. My wife however likes the Chive, so out I go to buy her one.

Victorinox Executive rides under the wallet in my off-side front pocket. Various other slippies ride in the watch pocket or front right pocket or rear right hand pocket, or even on my belt. Various Victorinox, including the ancient Tinker, Mechanic, and Soldier make the ride some days. Case jackknives, and one Queen, make up most of the rest of them.

The Case Slimline Barehead Trapper is one of the most common. Today, it and the Soldier are on the right hand.

Normally, Emerson custom CQC-8, Leatherman Charge Ti and a fixed blade of some variety. All depends on what I'm doing and where I'm going. I often toss in a CRKT folder of some sorts as a loaner knife just in case too.

I carry a Klotzli folder with carbon fiber scales and a TI liner. Swiss made, it's an absolute work of art, and I'm extremely carefull never to put anything metal in the same pocket it's carried in.

It's light, thin, and with the combo blade, very usefull.

Keen Kutter boy scout pattern knife I found in the Smoky Mountain Knife Works catalog. It's US-made, with a 1095 carbon blade and the other tools made of 440 stainless. Strange combo, but I like it. Yellow no-loss handle scales.

I currently carry a Benchmade 14250. It's one of the H&K knives, and the black clip really blends into the dark suit pants I usually wear.

I recently got a Benchmade 440 Opportunist to wear when I'm in casual clothes. It's a lot more slim and lighter, and the aluminum/wood handles with a chrome clip aren't as noticable when I'm in jeans or khakis.

Kershaw Leek (w/Speed Safe)

Unfortunately, it's not very durable. The metal is just too soft for a rugged EDC.

I love the knife, but I do need something w/harder steel so I won't have to carry around two knives.

jahwarrior, looks like you also EDC some peanut butter cookies.

I carry a sodbuster jr, some kind of 2-blade victorinox that weighs like 25 grams, and an orion k2 caper (just posted review). The Vic is like a "why not" knife because it just disappears in the pocket, it's light, and I can even loan it.

I like the Vic SAKs. I carry one daily and find a use for it daily. I have been carrying a SOG Mini-Vulcan quite a bit. I like this blade a lot. Just picked up a SOG Access Card 2.0 with the sheepsfoot blade style. Interesting little knife and it would make a good discrete EDC knife; it is no fighter however. I occasionally will carry a Spyderco Endura in a back pocket in place of the Mini-Vulcan. I like that blade a lot as well. I'm going to try carrying one of CRKT's Ringed Razel in a front pocket in the near future. Too many choices and they each seem to meet a specific purpose very well.

That's a HAK (http://www.hideawayknife.com/utilityhak.php)(Hide-Away Knife). I believe there were some problems encountered by folks ordering these, for at least a while. You should probably do some research before ordering.

I carry the Buck Tactlite 888, and can't envision ever carrying anything else. The knife is light, tough, and has G-10 scales and a 3.5" ATS-34 blade. Buck originally designed this knife for law enforcement use, but doesn't produce it anymore. I found mine brand new in the box on eBay for $27 incl. shipping. Just got lucky that day.

The Emerson Karambit with the Commander Blade is also now polished:)

Changes every so often ...
Currently a Benchmade 10300 Steirer Eisen Monochrome. It's a 3" drop point liner-lock with a plain edge. Not a real pricey blade, but it's N690 steel and takes a very fine edge.
