Recommendation for vest for target shooting?

I recently purchased a Remington 870 Home Defense and am looking forward to taking it out to the range. I've heard that 12 gauges have significant recoil, so: does anyone have a suggestion for a shooting vest?

I like the styling of the Cabela's Clay Pro X100, but they're out of stock for my size (Medium). I've also seen quite a few mesh vests: what's up with those? They seem a bit flimsy.

Any suggestions?

I have a 18" HD Remington 870 Model 25077, and I am new to SG. Went to a clay range , it was my 1st time shooting SG, I used the lightest load, and recoil AIN'T bad .. to my surprise.

I didn't have a vest and I donlt think I need a vest for recoil reason. But I would consider to get a better recoil pad instead.

Bought a clip on shell-holder (enough to hold a box of 25) -- Ellen brand. $7 bucks.

Put a good recoil plate on it. If you bought it used, buy a modern one, they are thicker.

It's a new 870 Express Synthetic (the 7-round version). The recoil plate is rubber.

Also, start out with light target loads, end with light target loads, and then shoot some .22. It can prevent a flinch.

A vest is usually worn by target shooters because it holds their shells, empties, extra choke if necessary, maybe some glasses, etc.

For HD purposes, not really necessary. You may want to look into putting a different recoil pad on your gun - something from Kickeez, Limbsaver, etc.....

PAST also makes a device that just covers your shoulder area and straps around your chest (almost like a shoulder holster....sort of)

I would try out the Remington SuperCell recoil pad (just make sure you get the right one... shotgun w/synthetic stock). I have it on all 3 of my 870's and it made a big difference - 3" slugs were much more tolerable to shoot (which is the load that I originally tested the pad out on).

I should clarify that I'm interested in the vest for clay/target shooting. I don't care about recoil discomfort in a HD situation. :)

go look at http://www.gamaliel.com/cart/home.php?cat=7

they have several vest, and I'm sure you will find on here that will work for you.

The mesh vest are for comfort in the heat.

Sorry, from your first post, it sounded like you were looking for a vest to reduce recoil as you shot your HD gun.

If you look at Cabela's, Gander, Able Ammo, Gamaliel, and others, you will see some good vests from a variety of companies...Browning, Beretta, Bob Allen, 10X, Chimere, Wild Hare and others all make good products in a variety of styles and price points......

Personally, being a LH and shooting here in FL, I use one with the most mesh possible....mine is a 10X brand....inexpensive, and I have had it for over 10 years - wear it rain or shine, cold or hot....it works for me

I would get a Supercell recoil pad and a vest. That pad will screw right on and it will make a difference. So will a vest, not only from recoil reduction but from having someplace to put "stuff" and get into a routine.
