WASHINGTON — The wife of New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg (search) was abducted at knifepoint Tuesday from the couple's suburban home and forced to withdraw money from a local bank, police said. She was released unharmed.

Kathleen Gregg, 52, said she found two men inside her McLean, Va., home when she arrived about 9:30 a.m. EDT. One pulled a knife and demanded money, said Jacqi Smith, a spokeswoman for the Fairfax County Police Department.

Mrs. Gregg then was told to drive to a local Wachovia Bank branch and withdraw money, police said. After receiving the cash, the men fled in a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Virginia license plates.

Mrs. Gregg was not harmed, but "her life was threatened and it was a terrifying experience," said a statement from Gregg's Senate office.

Sgt. Jeff Gossett of the Fairfax County Police said tellers at the bank were not aware of any problem as Mrs. Gregg asked to withdraw money from her account.

"Yes, she's fine," said Mrs. Gregg's mother-in-law, Catherine Gregg, in Nashua, N.H. "It took a lot of courage, a lot of courage for what she went through."

Police said there was no indication the robbers knew who Mrs. Gregg was.

A similar robbery occurred in the county last week, but police do not know if the two are connected, Gossett said. It's "very bold, it's very brazen," he said.

Agents from the FBI's Washington field office were assisting Fairfax County police.

She's lucky they only wanted money.

Get ready for the copycat criminals to begin mimicing a successful endeavor and, I predict, "Knife Control Legislation" to take the forefront alongside Gun Control.

Of course they could just call for an expanded AWB (but wait Baba Louie, they've already done that)

Adios

I'm glad she wasn't injured or killed, but sorry she wasn't ready, willing, and able to defend herself.

It always amazes me that most of the elite thinks they are immune from this kind of mess.

But, but we don't wish any harm on anyone else so everyone will be nice to us!:uhoh:

Well, the big question here has to be, "What's the Senator's voting record on gun control, CCW, etc.?" and the followup, "What will it be from now on?"

What kind of security detail to US Senators rate?

damn, my reply got wiped out. Here it goes again:

Government officials (elected or not) should not have security details paid for by tax dollars. A private, not-for-profit organization can raise funds and organize the security personnel for the officials. Each donation gets to be earmarked for a specific office (optional).

I figure any career politician should face whatever hornets that he or she stirs up. Take the good with the bad. I figure the same for health benefits, pension, and salary. No officials (elected or not) should be immune from the laws they make, the mistakes they make, and the orders they make. So if 50% of the workers get laid off in the private sector, I better see 50% of the bureaucrats laid off. Pass laws that infringes gun rights? Lose the guns in the officials bodyguards. Pass laws that raises taxes (either in terms of rates or actual dollar amount)? Dock them pay (tax witholding). If my HMO won't pay a benefit for me, neither should the health plan pay a benefit for any bureaucrat.

The one who pays the bills should get the final say, right? huf.

More specifically, Los Angeles city officials deny firearms to city residents. So they must walk around the worst part of town at the darkest hours armed only with whatever is legal for residents and experience the insecurity first hand. (note I do not advocate harm on them, but rather the anxiety and insecurity of being poorly protected)

We engineers have a term for this: feedback. Good control requires negative feedback to achieve stability so a system does not go out of whack.:banghead:
