I just wondered do you polish your leather holsters and if so how often?

Polish? Well sort of.

I use Camp-Dry Leather Lotion occasionally to keep scuffs & dry cracked leather at bay.

Also use Natural color Kiwi Shoe Polish for the same reason.

Also, it helps to keep dust & grit out of the leather, which translates into less finish wear on the guns.

I use the clear shoe polish sponges made by kiwi about every three months or so. I do not polish my IWB holsters as I want them to be as grippy as possible.

It's ok to use conditioner products on a leather holster...but use them sparingly. Especially if you don't want the holster to be as limp as an old baseball mitt. This may cause it to fold closed, preventing you from re-holstering with one hand, something you might need to do, especially if you're in law enforcement.

I can't speak directly for Kiwi Leather Lotion, but the Camp-Dry Leather Lotion I mentioned earlier is a water soluble wax, and used as directed it will not soften the leather or cause the holster to loose it's shape.

The non-suede leather ones I clean with saddle soap then polish them with leather polish like for saddles or leather coats. It also keeps them soft and moisturized. Not too much or it could make your gun rust.

Polishing my holsters satisfies some inner, aesthetic whim. I use Kiwi neutral wax and polish whenever the mood comes 'oer me.

For the record the pic is of a polished Simply Rugged Silver Dollar and the gun is a S&W Model 60 with a 3" barrel. FWIW!:D

My holsters are Czech and Chinese, so no, they're not Polish.

Wait, what was the question?

It's ok to use conditioner products on a leather holster...but use them sparingly.

Be careful what you use on your formed holsters. You can soften the leather and destroy the molded shape of the holster. This can ruin the holster's ability to grip the gun.

I would stay away from any sort of lotion unless it is a hard wax and not a softener, Kiwi is "OK" to use since it contains alcohol and naptha which actually dries leather (I wouldn't use Kiwi on my shoes).

If they get dusty I wipe them down with a lightly moistened cloth or paper towel. I've never seen any need to polish them.
