Is it my imagination, or is this trying to be a 1911?

I was researching Witness 10mm's (as I am about to purchase one), and noticed that it looks like its trying to be a cross between a 1911 and something else. Is it considered a stepchild to the 1911 family, or just on its own?
THanks,

It essentially mirrors the CZ-75 design IIRC.

Yep, that is the main part that threw me for a loop. Thanks.

It's a Chay-Zed. Only thing on it that looks 1911-ish is the beavertail. Front strap, back strap and slide don't look like a 1911 at all. Check the trigger.

CZ-75 clone.

Nawh, it has some serious CZ tendancies, but it would be a stretch to imply 1911-ness :scrutiny:

Like others have stated, it's a CZ clone.
But, it does have fewer parts. Overall internal design has been simplified.
I've heard some good things about the Tanfoglio/EAA versions.
Although, I've also heard some really horrible things about their customer service, etc. if you should need it.
I remember this topic being brought up at the CZforum.

CZ75B Earlier models had a rounded trigger guard. Note alignment dots on the slide and frame - that's how they take down :

CZ97, including beavertail thang:

I see nothing 1911ish about it.

More BHPish than 1911.

Big Negatory....CZ all of the way. The 75 was BHP influenced..but not at all a clone / copy. The Witness guns are pretty dang (UT sware word :D )
nice...well worth the money......Well, until CZ makes a 10mm.
Shoot well.................

Thread drift: What size fullcaps can you get for the Witness 10mm?

Does the Witness have a trigger pull similar to that of a CZ?
I only have 1 CZ pistol, a Model 83. One word to describe the trigger pull:
smoooooooooooth :)

You can get 15-16 rnds Hi Caps for the 10mm but they are like "Hi priced Glock mags".....upwards of 75-85$ You can find them here
http://www.savvysurvivor.com/handguns_and_handgun_magazines_f.htm
The triggers on the Witness guns are (gulp :uhoh: ) probably a little better in general than the CZ guns of recent production. You need to fire your new CZ at least 2-500 rnds to really see what the trigger is like.
In a nut shell, longer DA pull that is very smooth and SA pull thats very very nice. Short, light and breaks like your mom-in-laws crystal on a drunken new years eve :D
BTW...no DA gun really is as consistantly good in the trigger as a CZ83 is.
The Colt Pythons of days gone by are about the most worthy comparison.
If you guys havent tried one...........try one. :D
Shoot well.

I have a Witness 10mm ported in the Wonderfinish. It is a fun gun to shoot. As I recall someone has one for sale, not me, either here or at Glocktalk.

Maybe it's just me, but that pic of the CZ-75B looks like a 1911 that thinks it's a Beretta...
