It looks like we're going to be stuck with Arnold. Bugger! Well, the votes haven't been counted yet, just the exit polls, and if I close my eyes and wish really hard.....

It could have been worse. I want to see what Arnold is really going to do.
If it pisses off the Berkley liberals that will be some consolation.

Uh,
Davis has signed more gun control into law than any other governor of California.
He signed the really bad AW and hi-cap ban, the "listed guns only, cant hardly buy used guns now" ban and the really cool "ban 95% of handguns in 2 years ban".
If you are worried about Arnold, you are not paying attention.
There is hardly anything left for him to do short of door to door confiscation or some kind of strict FOID scam like IL has.
I'm not really a big fan of him, but you have to give him credit for defeating a pretty bad, very well funded gun grabber who never saw a pieve of gun control he did not like.
Arnold and his advisors know he is going to need the support of the right wing as well as the left to get things done. Look for him to talk up the environment and childrens issues, but gun control is going to be a loser and if anything, I think he might veto a few bills just to throw the right wingers a bone.
But here everyone is complaining about him because he says he supports closing the non-existent loop-hole and renewing the AW ban - these things are non issues and if anything, help allay the fears of the socialist soccor mommies.
Not saying he would never sign a gun control bill, but get some perspective - Gray Davis has already seen to it that in CA, you can no longer:
1. purchase most semi automatic rifles (excipt mini-14s, Garands and M1s and not much else.
2. purchase used guns from a gun store - unless its on consignment which few stores do - if you want a classic gun, you have to do a person to person.
3. acquire any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.
4. acquire any truly custome built pistol - only "approved" guns allowed. Want a true custome 1911 built by one of the masters? Forget it. Valtro, Wilson, Baer, thats about it.
5. buy a gun without buying a trigger lock or proving, under penalty of perjury, that you own a safe that meets their guidelines.
6. as of '05, buy a pistol that does not have a loaded chamber indicator or mag disconnect. As of '06, all pistols must have both. Hope you like BHPs. 1911s and Glocks as we know them today will not make the cut.
7. use your "lifetime" BFSC card. Now you have to get the new card and its only good for 5 years - and you have to do a "safety demonstration" everytime you acquire a handgun.
Hmm - did I miss anything? Oh, the ammo tax failed. It failed twice - you think that if Arnold did not win and you were stuck with Boostyourtaxes that he would not run over anyone between him and a camera when he signed a $0.15 per round ammo tax at a press conference?
Arnold may not be particularly pro-gun, but I will be suprised if he signs an ammo tax bill. At least you have a chance on holding that line.
That way, all of you who manage to "get what you want now" will be able to shoot your guns without installing a bill changer on your ammo box.
Too bad there will be so few new shooters, they are very smart - every law they pass (mostly) allows people to keep what they have now while cutting off the supply for future shooters.
Makes me wonder if Jim is around here - could that be worked into an equal protection action?
Why is it that one guy can own a certain gun just because he is older and was around before the ban, but now, a young guy cannot own that gun. The law says its for safety, yet it lets people keep these "dangerous" weapons. Yet, young guy has no opportunity to own one. If we could get a tobacco lawyer to take it, we might be able to make a case....
Did I tell you guys about the gun shows in Texas? I will spare you, because you are probably already tearing up. :neener:

I wish for all the best for A.S. and hope that he will at least not get behind any new laws with respect to guns. New laws to punish criminals might be a better use of his time.
CNN revealed that in their exit polling Tom was looked upon positively by 53% of the voters...far more than any other candidate, but the media and polls made him look unelectable. This puts him in a good position with regards to future office. It also, most likely, means that many of the liberals stayed home and the conservatives turned out. It will be interesting to see if a greater percentage of voters register as Republicans..or at least pull out of the donkey party. ( could have used a more accurate description of the same animal )

And add a few more curses for the fact that Bustamonte is still Lt Gov:barf: and the legislature is still thoroughly Democratic:barf: :barf:
The only good news is that this little CF got a lot of people off their collective duffs to vote. Democracy only works well when everyone participates . . . .
