I decided to take off my Knoxx SpecOps stock and Surefire forend from my Marine Magnum and replace it with walnut furniture.
Here's the before:

Very nice, but now you don't have a light!

I really like the current Police gun walnut. On a MM, I'd have put on several coats of spar urethane inside and out before installing it though. Can't have the furniture soaking up humidity in a marine environment...
lpl (I suggest Minwax Helmsman brand, in the spray can)
ETA- And how much bigger is the pile of empty hulls through that gun since the last time you took a picture of it?? 8^)

Looks very classy. Less tactical, but more business!

What a difference. Love the walnut.
Where did you buy it?

Check on Gunbroker, there's a source that often lists as-new Police gun takeoff furniture sets for sale there at a good price.

Well, I haven't had a chance to go shooting since I took the picture two days ago but I will be taking it out by month's end. I'm looking forward to shooting it without the Knoxx stock on it to see if I feel a need for a new recoil pad.
As for the lack of light, my shotguns aren't used for HD so, I don't "need" a light on it. In fact, both of my 870's are going to have walnut furniture once I can find another stock.
Brownells carries the 870 Police walnut forends but they're out of the stocks, as is eGunparts.com. I ended up with my current stock by trading for it with a member on another forum.
Lee, I'll take your advice on applying urethane to it as I may be taking this one camping.

Not bad at all! Not bad! Lee gave good thinking about that wood.
There is a special something that goes with wood furnature.

Thats 100% better. The tactical look is fine for military and special forces, but for 99.9% of us, the wood will do a better job and it looks a LOT better. Now gunbroker the tactical-cool crap and don't look back.

BossHog, no wonder my ears were burning - I'm doing the same, except to a lefty 870 Express. First I got a mag extension and removed the bumps in the mag tube, then got a synthetic stock and forend, then sent it off to Robar to be NP3'd. Now I got a walnut Police forend and stock. Because I'm a sucker for punishment I'm fitting a slightly curved metal buttplate to the thing and see what that looks and feels like. A hard black plastic one if that doesn't work. I wanted a shorter LOP. Pictures when finished - whenever that will be. Yours looks much nicer looking in wood, especially with the bright finish.

Muzzle flash will take care of that nicely.

Yes, a winchester three inch super X magnum round slug will produce a muzzle flame blast of about 5 feet long and 2 feet thick.
Honey! The grill charcoal is ready! Get the steaks please.

Beautiful shotgun -- wish I'd gotten the Marine Magnum instead of the regular old 870. Mine still has the Knoxx SpecOps stock and Surefire forend, but I think the Marine models definitely look better with the walnut stock and forend.

Well yes it LOOKS nice BUT if you need a light, and most actions at night, you HAD the best foreend. The Knox move around stuff is a good elimination IMHO. However being it IS a marine magnum it prolly is helpfull with that magnum ammo which is less than optimum tactically in the real world. Bottom line: keep the nice walnut but if it is 13 1/2" or less and put back the Surefire if this is you go to HD SG.

I prefer the specops on mine due to the adjustable LOP and, of course, the recoil reduction. I like old-school looks, but in this case, I have gone with new-school advantages.

"BIG improvement. What did you do with the Surefire?"
I sold the Surefire a few weeks ago and the Knoxx is spoken for as well. I like the walnut so much that I'm putting it on my other 870 too.

That looks awesome. I dumped the black synthetic furniture on my 870 for the walnut Police pieces and I couldn't be happier. Looks much classier.

Hey, since when is wood on a shotgun not tactical?
A simple oil finish has worked just fine on combat shotguns since WW1 and is no more reflective than black plastic.
Someone _might_ try to argue that wood stocks in humidity may affect point of impact, but we're talking about PATTERNS here, not tiny repetitive groups.

I have never heard that before and have to admit that I don't quite understand. Are you talking about shotguns?

SWEEET! Now, if we could get some pics with more light so the wood's grain can be admired more fully.
If you decide to refinish the wood, good pics will make for an awesome before and after thread.:)
