I was looking at a S&W 317 revolver today and wanted to ask everyone what they think of this piece, equipped with Crimson Trace grips, as a carry gun?

22 Is a terrible SD round and the laser doesn't make up for lack of power. Get a good j frame in 38 spl and leave the pointer light off . Use that money for ammo and practice

The 22 lr will kill you dead! Is that what i carry? Nope, but one well placed shot will end it, csa

I'm sure that in 99% of all SD situations, the mere presentation of a gun will end the threat. That said, I personally wouldn't depend on a .22, even though it may very well be enough gun for the job. It could just as well NOT be enough gun for the job.

You could be attacked by a skinny crackhead, a 6'2" 280# bodybuilder fresh out of prison, or a rabid Rottweiler. You really want to depend on a .22 for all contingencies?
