Trying to get into 3gun matches. I can find the SPs nearby, but is the A1 worth holding out for? Is the heavier barrel worth it?

unless you plan on putting more rounds through it than 10 generations of marines the short answer is no
the 590A1 was given the heavy barrel because its a military firearm that will be kept in inventory for generations LITERALY
i have the standard 590SP and i have put alot of rounds through it without any problems whatsoever so unless you plan on your great grandkids getting the firearm its probably not worth the extra time and money

Don't forget the heavier barrel will soak up more heat.

They come with a heat shield on the bead sight ones.

Believe me the lighter barrel will be preferable. I have the 590SP w/ 20" barrel and the thing isnt exactly light. I can only imagine what the A1 feels like.
