What now for McClintock?

Ok, he's not the guv. But he didn't drop out, and his votes could have caused problems for Arnold.

So, is he in deep doodoo with the Cal Republican party? Never to be heard from again?

Or does he still have support for the next race for guv, assuming Arnold gets bored with the job and doesn't run?

Regards.

I don't think the Republicans will write him off. They don't want to tick off that part of the party's base that he represents. He also now has national name recognition - something that wasn't the case before. Look for this very good man to grow bigger.

The reality of the matter is that the "Terminator" can't do a whole lot. Whatever he proposes will be stopped dead in the California legislature. But from our side of the picture he is (probably) better then any of the other alternatives - other then McClintock. But again, we need to face reality. Electing a true pro-gun conservative in a state like California simply isn't going to happen - at least not before the liberals flush it down the drain.

His "Face" stayed the course as he said he would, his presence is known and noted, he can still serve the new governor if need be as a worthy opponent and he CAN run for President/VP in 08 since he was born in this country... something that Gov.S cannot do.
The there's always a CA senatorial candidacy if need be.
But what do I know?

Because McC. didn't behave like a junkyard dog and didn't cost Arnold
the Election he enlarged himself. He wound up going from a rather
obscure statewide figure--obscure even to Californians before this
recall election--to someone with national presence. Given his values
that is a very good thing. I'm a pragmatist and didn't vote for him
but I respect him. We can use all the McClintocks we can find.

The only thing missing in this recall was that it didn't include about
two dozen of the more rabid leftists in the CA legislature. But the
message has been sent: we're mad as hell, etc.

With any luck at all, he will run against - and beat:D -- Barbara Boxer's lying leftist arse for senator. We have the two most worthless senators in the miserable clot:cuss: . One decent one isn't too much to ask, is it?

I don't consider this a bad thing. It gives us a chance to see who it is in the State Assembly and State Senate that want to keep California the way it is, and those who want to change it.

Then there is the ready access that Arnold has to the media, and his ability to apply public pressure to the State government.

The Terminator can hold a kleiglight up to some of machines-disguised-as
legislators in our Senate and Assembly. I can think of a few he can
toss some barbs at to make their lives uncomfortable: Burton, Perata, Scott,
Kuehl, Goldberg, et al.

McClintock has put himself in a good position to take on Boxer. Excellent
point.

He'd do great against Boxer. Or he should run for controller again, he'd be a shoe-in. A congressional seat maybe. Whatever - point is, he didn't do any harm, he brought conservative fiscal issues to light, he didn't sling ANY mud and kept his dignity intact.

He's walked away from this a big winner.

I see him being the Republican challenger to Diane Finestine when she's up for re-election.

Much truth has been spoken here so far.

If he pursues a higher office, whatever it may be, he's got my vote again. :)

That man is awesome. We need a lot more like him.

He stayed the course, kept his chin up, stood up for sound American principles, and rose above the crowd of loonies and panderers and name-callers and sycophants.

I'd have voted for McClintock with pride if I still lived there.

I'm hoping he'll run against Boxer as well.
I'm also hoping Arnold will first ask McClintock's advice on the economy and then will endorse him for senator
Here's hoping...

the guy got over a million votes ! including mine...
i say hes a valid PRK GOP figure.
In fact, with 62% of the total vote between Arnold and Tom, repubs have a new voice in PRK.

Would you rather be groped by Arnold or screwed by Davis ?

So who is up for re-election first? Boxer or Fineswine?

Oh, and I did vote proudly for McClintock.

Everyone in Cauleefornya owes Tom a great deal of respect for enlightening the people on the maters of fiscal mismanagement, and Ahnauld should bend over backwards to accept all the wisdom and assistance he can get from Tom. If Tom runs against Boxer or Feinswine, he has my complete support.

I think it helped him immensely. I live in MD. He is a state legislator in a state on the other side of the continent. I had never heard of him. He was in a high profile election, he was often on TV, he got exposure and he was reasonably eloquent and came across as intelligent. He now has national exposure, and is a relatively well known person now. I think he just might skip a couple steps. Next step is probably a run for Senate unless a Republican administration picks him up for some kind of position.

I've heard over the last few weeks that the Republican party was dangling a senate seat (Boxer's I think) in front of McClintock if he cooperated w/ them in the campaign for Arnold to show a unified party. I'd definitely vote for him to replace her...he's really a very logical choice!

Well, we'll see if the Republican party will sniff at McClintock's Million plus votes.
They now have a candidate with national recognition and all sorts of positive press.
We'll find out how dumb or smart the party machine is.

One rumor is that he will be the key man on budget issues for Arnold as a liaison in the Legislature.
