What do I have HERE?

Ok, so I'm in the ether and looking for a way to get into this competitive game.

Good friend is also relatively new to the game and today he gave me this. Said, "Take it and shoot it. I have several handguns, and I'm buying another match gun soon".

Apart from the obvious (and without knowing the particulars of his mod's and he said there are several), what do I have here?
(I don't know the round count or the year model. Serial number begins with HN 3***)

ASSUMING the price is right and it runs well, would this be a good "beginner" gun? And what class(es) would it apply to?

(new Galco paddle hoster and includes an extra mag or two)

What you have is a Para Ordnance pistol. Para is a Canadian firm and, in my personal experience, makes pretty good stuff. I have enclosed their URL for your further research. Good luck! http://www.paraord.com/

If I understand IDPA classifications correctly, for that game it would be "Enhanced Service Pistol" provided 10-round magazines are used.

(I don't know the round count

I would say that the para p16-40 limited is a nice gun. I have a p14-45 guns rights model. I would also venture a guess and say that it can hold 16+1 of .40 cal rounds. That is all I can offer right now lol. my p14-45 hold 14+1 of .45 rounds.

Others have identified the gun. But what is "the game" you are referring to? One member assumed you are talking about IDPA, but if not our answer could be different.

Nice friend you have there. :)

Thanks for the info.

By the "game" I just mean competitive shooting in general. Haven't yet studied the various classes at the local matches.

Plan on shooting it for the first time tomorrow.

Back in the day, when we'd be sitting at the bar, discussing the day's events, we'd ask, "What's the best kind of beer?" Of course, the correct answer is "free beer"!

I think the same can be said of guns. The best gun? A free gun! In this case, that is a beautiful 1911-style 40SW caliber double-stack handgun finished in what appears to be hard chrome.

The "limited" gives you adjustable sights, ambi-safety, and a chromed mag release (usually plastic). As for IDPA/IPSC, you'll have to wait for the experts to answer that part - but I think they only use 10 round mags.

Nice gun - well done! Happy shooting!

I know someone that loves 1911 type pistols and he's been carrying this brand for quite a few years. He picked up a Galco open-top style holster for it this week...Yours might be a keeper.

In OPEN class , you will be shooting against guns built with unlimited funds and they ALL will have optics like a Red Dot or Scope.

In Limited/Stock you will be competeing against others with the same GENERAL TYPE of guns -- all you need to be a "big dog" would be some extended mags and a mag well for easy mag reloads.

Limited 10 is the same as Limited EXCEPT you are only allowed to load 10 rds. in each mag.

but mines a p16-40 LDA i love the LDA trigger.

its smooth and lite and you can stage it.

i have umpteen thousand rounds thru mine without

any problems.

only thing i changed were the grips and the mainspring housing.

i prefer a flat mainspring housing.
