A while back I bought my first S&W semi-auto, a compact 6906 9mm. It's a great gun and it gave me the itch to add another Smith to the stable.

The new addition arrived earlier this week. It's a used, police turn-in S&W Model 5903 9mm. The 5903 is a full sized gun with a 15 round mag, yet it has an alloy frame like the smaller 6906. It balances very nice in the hand and points naturally. This one even came with genuine Novak sights.

After a complete tear down, inspection, cleaning, and replacement of all the springs, it was ready for the range.

And the verdict is... It's a winner. Function was flawless. It went through 50 rounds of 124 gr. flat points without a hiccup. At 10 yards, it easily kept all 50 shots in the 10-ring of a B27 target. Not bad for a used cop gun!

Here's a couple pics of the new addition...

Sweet gun! I have one just like it except with square trigger guard and adjustable sights.

Caution. Be very careful. These guns, 2nd and 3rd Gen Smiths, are as addicting as all get out. I have over 20 of them and plan on more. Rock solid, reliable, and accurate.

Gorgeous.

What does one cost you in Texas, If I might ask?

Quiet! If word gets out about how good they are, the prices will go up! :p

Very nice, I had one of these that I sold about 5 or 6 years ago. I really miss it now. Congrats!!

[F]unction was flawless.
An attribute often overlooked by the "Smith-bashers."

If anyone is interested in picking up one of these fine shooters, Cole Distributing still has some in stock. Last time I checked, they had the 5903 and the 5904 in stock. http://www.coledistributing.com/

I don't have any experience with them but have always heard good things about the series. I've been wanting a 5906 for awhile now.

Until you have had a chance to shoot one of these metal frame S&W autoloaders, you don't know how good they are; absolutely the best value going in a used autoloader! skeeter_08

I don't know about the 5900 series, but I absolutely love my 6906.
