I was on the Hodgdons web site looking at load data and came across the pressure table. There was 2 ways of showing the pressure( FPS and LUP). I know what fps is (feet per second). But what is LUP?

LUP is Lead Units of Pressure. Since shotshells operate at lower pressures than most metallic cartridges (where pressure is measured in copper units of pressure, i.e. CUP) it is the standard for said shotshells

FPS is not a measurement of pressure. Did you mean PSI? Most modern loading manuals list PSI instead of LUP. I looked over at Hogdon's page and found they do list a few loads with LUP. This is likely older data. SH is right about LUP's meaning. There isn't a direct conversion between the two, but the general rule is psi-1000=lup. SAAMI spec for 12ga is 11,500 psi.

So, if I'am reading this correctly PSI rate of 1,000 = 1 Lup or is it somthing else? I'am a little cofused. The powder I 'am using is Clays. The recipe is 18.2 grs of powder, primer is Win 209, wad is WT12, 1,200 FPS and a pressure rating of 9,800 LUP. So what is the relative PSI rating? Thanks for all the help
