AR 15 1 in 9 twist reload

Hey folks,
I have just received my DMPS 5.56 Sportical, and am setting up to reload.:D
It is my understanding that with the 1:9 twist that the heaviest bullet I should use, does anyone have comments on that.
I would really like to go a bit heavier, say 80 to 90 gr, what will that do to 250 to 600 yard accuracy?
If anyone is loading this weight, and if so what is your formula, I accept that it is yours and I will start at a lower point, but just for starters. Neither of my manuals have listings for the 5.56, and I need to get a new manual, does Lyman have reloading data on the 5.56?
Thanks for your help.

75 gr. HPBT from Hornady if your lucky.
75 gr. A-Max from Hornady. Forget about it most likely.
69 gr. Sierra Matchking should be good
68 gr. Hornady HPBT should work good too.
Anything below these I would not shoot at 600 yards.
You can forget about the 77 gr. through 90 gr. with a 1:9 twist. As far as powders go, Varget, RL15, N140 for the heavier bullets.
There are other companies who make bullets in this range, but I don't use them yet, so I cannot comment.
If you are only shooting out to 300 then you might get good results with the 68 gr. Hornady HPBT. Two hundred and fifty yards should not be a problem with bullet weights over 55 grains, but I would go with a 60 gr. or higher if it were me.

say 80 to 90 gr,Those bullets will not even fit in an AR magazine.
The match shooters load them one at a time, single-shot style.

Yeah, what rc said. And those heavy bullets really aren't at their best in 1/9 twist anyway.
In my humble shooting with 1/9 twist:
If I want to shoot 600 yd (or m) I use 77g SMK or 75g AMax. Or Nosler 55g Ballistic Tip or 52g Custom Competition. The heavier ones don't blow in the wind too badly, but if there is no wind the lighter ones shoot in 1/9 the best. Or at least that's what I find.

The 69 gr Sierra Matchking, and 1in9 twist is a great combo.

A 69 grain bullet is about max for the 1:9 twist. I have been loading a lot of 62 grain and like them a lot. I wouldn't expect to shoot much over 300 yards with it, or at least that's my experience.

Both my AR's like the 69 gr #1380 Sierra and Ramshot TAC powder.

Personally, my 1:9 twist rifle loves the Hornady 60gr VMAX and Sierra 60gr varminter....It also shoots very well with 69 gr Sierra Matchkings....I've used the Hornady 75gr AMAX, but it had to be loaded to an overall length that caused you to have to feed it manually...would not fit in the magazine ...frankly, it wasn't worth the trouble

My 1:9 twist barrels didn't like the Hornady 75gr AMAX bullets. Too heavy for the 1:9 twist. The 75 gr AMAX would do better if I had a 1:7 twist barrel.
You can load 75gr AMAX's to feed from the magazine, but you have to back down your powder charge and seat the bullets so they don't exceed max O/L cartridge length.

I have a 20" match barrel in 1:9 that shoots 75g Amax's better than 69g SMK's. So I think you have to test various bullets in your rifle to see what it'll handle. There's no other way to know for certain.
I load the SMK's to mag length and Amax's to .015 off the lands, so those are single load rounds only. Check out Reloder 15, popular among the National Match and Highpower crowd, and with very good velocity.
