I did some searches and couldn't come up with any handguns that fire rifle ammo other than the .22. Rifles that fire handgun rounds are popular but not the other way around. Are there any out there? If not, why?

AR-15 pistol configuration - shoots .223/5.56 rounds

Thompson Contender - pistol configurations that can shoot nearly any rifle caliber

FN Five-Seven - I'm cheating on this one, I think the round was developed so they could have a rifle and a pistol using the same ammo over in Europe......

Just a couple off the top of my head////

You can get it in 30-30 and 45/70 IIRC.

There's a revolver in .600NE. There's also AK pistols and AR pistols.

You can add the .17 Magnum and .22 Hornet to the list too.
Magnum Research BFR

You can get it in 30-30 and 45/70 IIRC.
As said above Magnum Research's BFR revolvers shoot "rifle" calibers. I don't think the 444 Marlin, 450 Marlin or .50 AE were mentioned while the 45/70 and 30-30 were.

Cool. That's a lot more than I thought. The Thompsons look nice.

Don't forget the bolt action single shots. Remington had the XP-100 (or was it XR-100?) which is long discontinued. Weatherby also has their CFP (Compact Firing Platform) pistol.
I think i'd rather go with the T/C Encore/Contender platform for the long list of available calibers and easy switch design.

There was an AMT Automag III that shot .30 Carbine. They are easy to spot at the range due to the immense BOOM and the jet of fire from the muzzle.

You should see a Remington XP-100 shoot a 7-08 or 308 at a metal ram.....talk about ka-BOOM!.... :D

Single Action and 'New Service' Double Action Colts, came in 38-40 and 44-40, both Rifle Cartridges...

Some big Frame DA Smith and Wessons did also.

"XP-100" wise...if it was good enough for that Grassy Knoll, it's good enough for just about anything...
