I will be buying a new 1911. What are the pros and cons of $1000 Kimber and SA guns? Is one better or more user friendly? This will be a carry gun. 5" bbl, adj or night sights, stainless steel gun.

Honestly...you are asking a loaded (pun intended :D ) question...both guns have great merit to some people....

They feel quite the same in most peoples hands. Id say it came down to the individual guns youre looking at.

Personally for 1K $...Id jump on an STI Trojan so fast your head would spin.

Ive had two and they smoked my other Kimbers, etc..........

They are the best deal in Semi Custom 1911's that is out there currently.

Shoot well

I think the best way to spend that $1,000. is to buy a Colt.:D

The Kimbers have the Swartz type firing pin safety system and there have been a number of reports of the MIM parts in this system breaking and rendering the gun inoperable. The Springfields do not have this, but have a locking mainspring, but there have been no reports of failures. Kimbers are sometimes finicky about feeding, seems Kimber barrels are made with minimum dimension chambers, which is great for accuracy.

I'd go w/ the TRP ;)

I own a Colt (pre-WWII MilSpec), a Kimber (stainless Custom/Classic), and two Springfields (stainless Loaded and ArmoryKote TRP). All are full-sized and all have been unequivocally excellent in every respect. However, the best is the TRP. I suspect a Brown, Baer, Wilson, or Valtro would be marginally better – and someday I want to own at least one of those – but I would recommend the Springfield TRP as a superb, $1000 class, 1911A1.

:scrutiny:

I owned a SA TRP and fired a buddies. I've fired three different Kimbers.

Verdict...Kimber. Accuracy seems more consistant.
