Hi,

I have a Remington 870 Express with a 28" barrel. I want to attach a 2-point sling to it but I don't want to drill a stud into the stock.

Is it feasible to use a mag cap with a swivel stud and use one of those tactical sling spacers that slip in between the stock and receiver as a 2-point sling?

They also make slings that simply slip over the butt of the gun. These work fine as long as you hard mount them on the upper end.

I agree.

But here's the thing.

An 870 Express will never be anything but an 870 Express.

You will loose NO value by putting a sling stud in the butt stock. And it will work just like it's supposed too.

No other sling attachment will work as well.

On the flip side, I bought a 1959 Superposed Browning that someone did put a sling stud in the buttstock, AND they put it in off center. Now on that gun, it did hurt the value.

Butler Creek and Vero Vellini also make slings with loops that slip over both ends - the barrel and the pistol grip.

I used to use a piece of clothesline for the half-mile hike to the duck blind and later in the day to go on to the deer blind. I kept meaning to buy a real sling. Rope doesn't cut into your shoulder too much if you're wearing a parka.

Okay, I gotta ask, why don't you want to install a sling stud in the buttstock? I assume you know they also make flush mount sling attachments that fit in the stock.

Can somebody explain how the front sling mount spacer from Wilson Combat works? Does the mag cap tube screw over it?

I got a sling stud put in the one I had and a stud put in the existing hole in the end cap. Mine wasn't 100% center but unless you were really looking it was not obvious so I didn't mind too much.

Have used a double loop sling on my old Browning for at least 20 yrs. Completely satisfied. One loops around the pistol grip area and the other past the forearm. On my turkey shotty the strap is attached to the mag plug and a stock stud. Same on my 742/7400s.
