Ok, something I would really love to know is where exactly is my C&R FFL license? I sent out the forms and the check end of July/begining of August. I got my check cashed around mid August.....now it is October and I STILL haven't received it! Where the heck could it be? What could be taking so bloody long? Is there any number I can call and check on it? What's the deal?

IIRC, mine took about 5 weeks.

Dunno if this is the right number to check on status, but it should get you started:
(404) 679-5040
That's listed in my C&R List Book as the licensing number in Atlanta.
Good Luck.

My check was cleared a week after I mailed it; still waiting for the 03 at 28 days. But who's counting? :D

I have heard recently of several people who have been waiting 45+ days for a C&R. Sounds like they may have a bit of a backlog.

It sometimes helps to politely call and inquire on the status. This may get you bumped to the top of the pile....

The processing speed on these seems to come in waves. For a while it was taking forever, then for a while it seemed most were getting them in under 45 days, but recently it seems to be slowing again....

It will come. Just keep in mind, every day that you have to wait is another day for your credit card to rest before the big workout! :D

Blain, applied for mine around the same time, haven't recieved it yet either. They did send a request for an additional form so I know they are at least looking at it.

Took me like 75-80 days to get mine. Check was cashed within a week.

It will come, be patient.

I've long been thinking of doing this also.My question is;
do they send everything you need, like bound book, forms, etc?

The other thing to keep in mind is that the apps are processed by individauls that cover regions of the country. If the person covering your region goes on vacation... well... get ready to wait a bit longer.

They do not send a bound book, or really tell you specifics on how to keep it. There is an outline in the manual of the info they want. I just use a note pad for mine.

The most important thing is NOT TO SIGN THE ORIGINAL LICENSE.
You only get one. You are to make copies, and sign those.

....and while I'm at it, I'll put in a shameless plug for a really great forum that concentrates on C&R's and will answer these and many other questions..... (http://pub176.ezboard.com/bcurioandrelicfirearmsforum) ;)

I should point out that they cash your check PRIOR to aproval of the form. If you are rejected then they send a refund. I assume this makes it easier on the paper work on both sides. The wait time also varies greatly on your location. I know people in other parts of the country that take months. In general it appears that folks in the Puget Sound area area get theirs in 2-3 weeks tops.

It depends how anti-gun your state is. When I got my C&R last year, the average time was 3 weeks for most people, except for me. The ATF lady I talked to said that Maryland's State Police was notoriously slow about doing the required background check (taking the entire time they were allowed), so I had to wait something like 5-6 weeks, when most states did them right away and the licenses were out the door in 3 weeks.

Maybe things have changed but, i didnt think that the state authorities had anything to do with getting a C&R. I DID have to send a copy to my CLEO but it stated quite clearly that he didnt have to do anything with it.

Did you get it yet? My buddy's C&R took about a month. In Kali, no less. Go figure.

If you're in Kali, look into a Certificate of Eligibility also. Dunno if this applies outta state, though. Lets you walk straight outta a store w/ the goods w/o the annoying 10 day wait.

Actually I've seen evidence to the contrary. I live in CA and got mine in 15 days. On the C&R boards you can see that Texas is an example of a state that often takes an extraordinarily long time to get C&Rs out. I think it more often depends on the BATFE rep, the region, and the backlog.

c_yeager:
The ATF calls your state police or whoever and has them do a background check on you, in addition to the copy of the application form that you send to your sheriff/CLEO.

BenW:
That could do it too. MD State Police supposedly delays the checks on principle rather than for any real reason.
