Ok,I took the plunge about 3 weeks ago on this gun and its been HELL ever since.Took the gun out of the box and while cleaning I noticed a large dent in the barrel near the crown.I calledSavage and boxed up the whole gun in its original box and sent it out.Well I get a phone call today and they tell me the barrel was recrowned which I wasnt thrilled with but the big problem is they dont have my bolt!Customer service tells me I didnt send it in with the gun,I tell them no way I know for a fact it went in with the gun.Now what do I do,I have a $800 gun without a bolt.If I have to pay for a bolt now out of my pocket,I will flip out!this is the first and last time I will do business with Savage if I have to Pay!

Was the purchase NIB from a dealer? Or, private sale?

Sorry to hear this Warrior. I have had nothing but excellent service from Savage. I have the same rifle and love it. If you bought this from a dealer and it was supposed to be NIB I'd go back to the dealer and get some answers. If he or she is reputable they should replace your rifle and they should return it to Savage if indeed it came from the factory in that condition. Good luck bro, I really hope you get this resolved and you get a shootable rifle. You'll love it if you do. Let us know what happens.

Don't know if this helps, but my recently purchased 10FP does not have an S/N on the bolt.

I feel for you...good luck!

I just bought a 10FLP this past week, and the last 4 digits of the rifle's serial number are stamped on the bolt. In fact, there was a warning somewhere on the rifle's documentation (trigger tags I think) to make sure the #'s matched.

I hope you get it straightened out!

I bought an 10FP LE2A w/accutrigger about three weeks ago, mine is not the Macmillan stock but the standard stock model, I replaced the stock with a B&C durramaxx which required a little fitting. The gun was perfect out of the box, and shoots very well. My model does not say tactical.

Every rifle I own including my sar1 AK clone has the serial number on the bolt (or the last 4 or 5 digits). This is because the headspace of the rifle is set to that bolt. Never switch bolts on a bolt action or any other rifle unless the manufacturer says its ok.

The serial number on mine is on the right rear of the receiver, its a little hard to make out in some lighting because of the parkerized finish.

If this happened to me I would call the president or CEO of Savage and insist that I get a new rifle. If they dont cooperate, I would promise to name them in a small claims court action in DE, naming the CEO as the defendant. If you charged it on a Mastercard or visa you can call your bank and seek a chargeback to the dealer, document that you had to send it backto the manufacturer because it was defective.

If you go high enough at Savage most likely you will get a new rifle.

Be polite but firm.

Ok,just got off the phone with Savage cust service, this is like an Xfiles. They got my reciept and stated that due to the weight that I DID INFACT SHIP THE GUN COMPLETE !But still no bolt. They said they would fit a new bolt to my rifle, which I disagreed due to the fact that now my original serial# bolt is now stolen and can turn up down the road in a badway. They also stated that they do not have the original box that I shipped my rifle in,which the Manager the other day stated" they rechecked the box for my bolt"(lie)! From the begining I was made out like the Badguy here, and now all the evidence points to one of their employees and they still don't want to take responsibility. They also stated that the bolt doesnt have the serial# on it but others here are telling me different. So now what do I do accept a rifle to which the original bolt is stolen/lost?Do I take it to the next level and Notify the Attorney Generals in all 3 states?Do I notify the ATF?I'm not sure what I should do here but I can tell ya right now think twice before you purchase a Savage product because they really don't have a warranty when they start to lose your parts and lay blame to you the customer. I know this will be my last time I ever buy a Savage Product!

The bolt on my gun has the last 4 digits of the serial number on it.

The receiver is the firearm legally.

I would call savage and go higher, ask to speak to the manager tell them what you want them to do to make it right.

You bought an $800 gun with a full length barrel, you need the same back.

Where are those numbers at on yours???

The last 4 of my rifle's serial number are stamped on the left top side of the "bolt guide".

You have to pull the bolt back slightly to see them.

In fact, the plastic bag that the bolt came in (it was seperate from the rifle) is where the Caution is printed.

CAUTION
BOLT ASSEMBLIES ARE SPECIFICALLY MATCHED TO A FIREARM. BEFORE INSTALLING THE BOLT, VERIFY THAT THE 4 DIGITS ENGRAVED BY THE EXTRACTOR MATCH THE LAST 4 DIGITS OF THE SERIAL NUMBER. USING ANY OTHER BOLT ASSEMBLY MAY CAUSE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FIREARM AND/OR SERIOUS INJURY TO THE SHOOTER OR BYSTANDER.

Who did you ship it through? Sounds like the original box broke open or a package handler opened (intentionally or unintentionally) the box and somehow the bolt was removed and the gun repackaged. The first Savage contact thinking you packed the gun the the repackaged box.

Look: The 4-digit number on the bolt just means it's fitted to that particular rifle. It's easy for the factory to make a new bolt fit. If they don't put the 4-digit number on the new bolt, you can do so yourself. All that is no big deal.

Your primary concern is getting back a complete rifle, with the barrel recrowned.

I am going to wait to get the rifle back now. After proving the bolt was shipped they then attempted to blame the Post Office, but I asked them if the box was damaged or opened and they said no or they would have immediatelly made notifications.I still feel they are not doing the right thing here, yeah their replacing the bolt( that they most likely lost).Im getting a recut and recrown for a barrel that I bought new.How much would it cost them to put a new barrel on my gun? They prob make them for 25 to 30 dollars. I mean come on I bought a NIB gun and Im certainly not getting one back from customer service.

Sorry I didn't back to ya on the serial # question Warrior. I was outta town last week. Glad to hear you're gonna get a shootable rifle back. Very distressing that you had to jump thur so many hoops to get this problem resolved. Totally out of character for Savage customer service from all my experience.

I really hope your rifle is a tack driver. Mine looks like it will be if I get some match grade ammo. I was at the range with it this past weekend. I have been shooting some surplus Aussie I bought when I got the rifle. I was getting 2" - 3" groups, not great I know, then the next 3 rounds would fly off left, right, hi, or low or a combo of the four. I think the bullets are 147gr. With the 1:10 twist in this rifle I'm pretty sure a heavier bullet in the 168gr or 180gr range will be more accurate. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the barrel didn't collect much copper fouling either. I like the gun and look forward to becoming more proficient with it.

I hope you end up liking yours as much. I think you will if you give it a chance.
