I've got a conference/class comming up soon in Raliegh and I not sure if NC CCW laws allow for me to carry while in the conference. The conference/class is at a hotel, but I'm not sure if this falls under the can't carry where you're charged admission. Any one know?

Thanks

You are aware of www.packing.org ?

http://www.packing.org/state/index.jsp/north+carolina

Looks like there IS reciprocity with S. Carolina - http://www.jus.state.nc.us/cle/listofstates.pdf

Beyind that, you might have to speak with the hotel chain / manager.

Yes, we finally have reciprocity and recently added S.C. :D :)

Check the Packing.org site for actual wording on legality, etc.

North Carolina gun laws are vague and contradictary.

Call the Law Enforcement Liason Section of the NC Department of Justice at (919) 716-6500, and ask to speak to one of the lawyers there regarding firearms law.

I doubt you'll get a straight 'yes/no' answer, like a formal opinion from the Attorney General's Office, because it's probably never been addressed by the state legal system, ie: no-one's ever been arrested for it. (disclaimer: just my opinion, based on supposition, no hard facts, etc...)

PS- The first word in CCW is "C". :)

Do you have to pay to get into the convention? If so, its an admission fee. Are you staying at the hotel? If so, thats a bill.

I agree with Zach. My yardstick is this:

May I walk off the street into this gathering without any money or credit?

If the answer is yes and it's not at a parade, bank, state/federal building or school, then it's legal IMO.

Of course, you must choose what you think is right.

I was kinda thinking the same thing about the admission price for the conference. I read the rules out on packing.org a few times, and they really weren't conclusive one way or the other. Guess this means I shouldn't carry the .40 in class then.

Thanks guys!

The reason I went after a CCH in NC was precisely because the laws are so fuzzy. I am amazed at how much work the state engages in to avoid a simple answer.

The key provision is paid admission. You pay to get in, you don't pack. Now that provision is to keep you from packing in movie theatres and football games. I question if it means paid seminars particularly if the host hotel has no problem. Regardless of what the law says, if the hotel opts out, you can't pack in public areas. Your hotel room is a different story.

Call the DOJ and talk to knowledgeable personnel. They really are quite helpful.

If your'e charged for attending, no, you can't. Sorry, I think it is BS. myself.
But that is the rules.

Do what Waitone sez and give em' a call.
