Should I get two Mosins 91/30 and a M44 or a K98k and a Mosin (91/30 or M44)? I'll be using them for hunting and plinking.

It depends how far you will shoot them( for hunting purposes ) and what you are looking to do to them. What piece of advice I can pass from a person who helped me out, is find a pre1940's Mauser. After 1940 the QC in there actions went OTD. Before the 40's, there actions were solid and hard to beat. For a real 98 it will cost some dough. Mosin 91/30's sell in WI for about 100 bucks. If you want to sporterize one, you are better off buying a used for 30-06 then putting a couple hundred into the Mosin. Some are good shooters, but some can be crappy. Look for good rifleing and if it has been counterbored. Not saying a counterbored mosin is lousy, I prefer one that isn't. I don't have experience with the carbine M44, but some have said the Finish ones are the best, but are more expensive than the Russian counterpart. And the fact that they are more accurate with the bayonet extended.

If you want to hunt, Get the Mauser and an M44. The reason i say this is that you will have more options for hunting ammo in the 8mm than you will in the 7.62x54R; as far as I know, only Norma and Wolf Gold make proper soft points for the Mosin.

This is too easy:
Get the K98 and a 91/30. Both are accurate and fun. You'll enjoy the relative merits of two of the most prolific weapons ever produced.

A M44 is more of a shortened 91/30, so they're cool guns, but not as much fun as a K98 (subjective).

BTW - I have all of the above and I'm in lust with my RC K98. All of my mosins and K98's shoot great (usually 2" groups at 100 yds).

Tough call really. If you get two Mosins you'll have the commonality of ammo but will not experience the generally better quality of manufacture that Mausers offer.
But then you would have to have two different types of ammo to feed each rifle.
A good Mauser is a thing of beauty and functionality. I have several that I have converted.
I also have a couple M44 Mosin's that I like.

Also Wolf Silver, S&B, and I think Prvi Partisan.

But I'd get the Mauser and the Mosin rather than two Mosins. Go for variety.

Personally, I'd skip the Mauser and get a pair of Mosins and a K31.

The Mosins are still selling at fire sale prices. If you like milsurps you'd be a fool to pass them up right now. The days of cheap K98's are largely past and neither gun is IMO a great shooter.

K31's on the other hand ARE great shooters and they're still available for less than the price of an RC K98.

Buy one Mauser and lots of ammo(if you can find any).
