If you had a choice between a 1911 in .38 super and a Browning Hi Power in 9mm which would you get and why?

I voted for the HiPower. I currently have one and it fits my hand a bit better than the typical 1911.
.38 Super and 9MM have a lot of overlap in ballistics so why give up the advantages of a smaller, lighter gun and larger ammo capacity without any significant gains.
That being said .38 super 1911s are a joy to shoot and I like them as well. But if I had to choose one or the other it would be the BHP.

What other guns & calibers do you have in your collection? 38 super can be a FUN round to shoot

Oh, I have all 1911/.45's. I'm somewhat partial to 1911's but was curious as to any just blantent advantages one has over the other. I was looking through some previous posts and saw a Ted Yost BHP and it was really cool. That got me thinging about the two. After giving it some thought I can't decide which I would rather have.

BHP, because I already have a 1911 in an even hotter caliber. :D
An old .38 Super Combat Commander would be neat, though.

Hello. I voted Browning, but would like to offers some thoughts on the 9mm round vs the .38 Super. They are at the link below:

Though not exactly within the parameters of the poll, if interested, here are some ideas concerning the 1911 in 9mm:

I voted .38 Super. Load it so light it's like a mouse farting in your hand and go shoot static steel, IDPA in the ESP division, etc. Change the recoil spring and load it up with Corbon ammo and pack it.

Cuz, it's a 1911! And I have not got a .38 Super in the collection(yet). Can get a slide and barrel and convert it to my favorite caliber too!

I picked BHP, of course.
I had a Kimber Pro Carry HD in .38 Super and absolutely loved it, but I got rid of it. Great handgun, great round. Also a rarer and more expensive round than 9mm and doesn't really give you anything that a +P 9x19mm won't give you, though. And, of course, a handgun round is a handgun round, so it makes little difference, anyway.
I am "jonesing" for a 9x19 Commander, though.

I don't know that I'd call 100 fps "nothing". :uhoh:

My limited experience that the 1911 will have a far superior trigger to the BHP w/o a lot of custom work.

1911 in 9x23. Sorry. Couldn't resist. 1911 any day even though I really like my BHP.

The Hi Power, 'cause you can't have too much of a good thing, and I like it a LOT. Besides, maybe my wife would take the 1911, and then we'd have both :D ...
And it's not fair throwing in that 9X23:rolleyes:

I already own the BHP..........
So, 1911 in .38 super.
But I would have bought the BHP first under all circumstances.

It's like choosing between classic cars or vintage airplanes. I like the 38 Super and Mustangs, you'd rather drive a Chevelle and buy BHP. It's all good to me.

The BHP for carrying.
The 1911 for shooting.

1911 fits my hand much better (the P-35 just bumps me wrong!)
Better triggers.
Better cartridge.
