Using Overshot Cards or Shot Filler Wads

I have a Lee LoadAll II. I have finally gathered all the components and am ready to reload my first 20 ga. shells. While researching and trying to find a retailer that wasn't out of stock on everything I needed, I came across overshot cards and fiber shot filler. I thought it would be a good thing to just have on hand - I didn't want to start loading and find that the load was "loose" inside the shell after being crimped AND then have to wait for a new order of fillers and cards to show up.

Anyway, everything I have read says to not change a "known" recipe. Will adding an overshot card(s) or shot filler wads negatively impact the recipe?

A newbie appreciates any and all advice. Thanks.

By the way - I found the folks at www.ballisticproducts.com very helpful AND they had everything I needed.

I've only used Winchester and Remington wads in RP, Win, and Fed hulls and no cards or filler wads are needed for 20 ga. 7/8 or 1 oz. loads using the above components. However follow exact load data and use the exact components for the published load recipes. In fact some one oz. loads require heavy wad compression to get the shot column down enough to get a good crimp.

rg1,
Thanks for the info. Those are the exact components I am using - so I guess I'll just squirrel away the cards and filler wads. Thanks again.

Will adding an overshot card(s) or shot filler wads negatively impact the recipe? You can safely add a filler wad to use up wad space in plastic wads if necessary. For instance, using 1 1/8oz plastic shot-cup wads to load 1oz loads.

Adding an over-shot card wad to a plastic shot-cup wad would result in poorer patterns.

Getting rid of all those wads in the shot string was one of the things that made the plastic shot-cup wad such a great improvement in patterning when it was invented.
