What finishes can you apply to SS?

You can bead blast, or brush the stainless. You can use bead blasting as a base for the newer spray on finishes as well. You can also have SS Melonite treated and then phosphate after the Melonite process if I remember correctly.

btw, the gun in question is a Magnum Research BFR (if that matters)

You're welcome, and I also forgot the Ion Bond DLC. I have a 360 with S&W Black Diamond finish (same thing), and that stuff is awesome.

I believe nitride finishes (tenifer / melonite) actually decrease the rust resistance of stainless steels by messing up the chromium (or they get messed up by the chromium content). They do make the gun more scratch-resistant, though.
Some kind of bake-on finish is probably your best bet.

Also, opinions on what would look good are appreciated. I was thinking black would look nice. These aren't the only grips I have, I also have some Pachmayrs that I use when shooting.
