I have a DPMS CMP style free float tube on my AR. It works great and looks great, but it's very heavy. I'd like to get a lightweight, but I don't know if a 1 piece or 2 piece is better. I Don't want any quad rail as I don't use accessories. I just target shoot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The JP Enterprises VTAC has GREAT reviews from all the folks over at AR15.com.

I recently saw a tube that was half smooth and half quad. It looked pretty cool, but I think it was expensive.

On average do most weigh over or under 1 pound?

Yeah, there are a few that make forearms like that.

The JP VTAC lets you add rails where you need them. Fulton Armory has one like that as well.

This is pretty interesting from YHM. I think I would have gotten it for my AR instead of the YHM lightweight rifle-length railed forearm for my M4gery if it existed when I bought mine:

This one is more interesting-- it lets you add rails where you want them:

Customizable Free Float Forearm System
*NEW* Now each forearm comes with a full length picatinny rail and a 3" elevated rail!

That one has no hyperlink, but it is half-way down on this page:

I just put the YHM customizable on my Bushmaster C15M4 and I like it. It is lightweight and allows me to put the rails only where I want them.

LaRue or SWS if you want a quad rail, PRI if you don't.

Art at Superior Weapon Systems (SWS) has my LR-308B as we speak putting on his A-1 Rifle-Length rail.

He makes a GREAT product, and he is one of the good ones. I've enjoyed talking with him on the phone.

if you're looking for the LIGHTEST weight and relatively inexpensive, but not for hard use at all... check out clark custom's carbon fiber handguard. i think it's 6oz. i have one on my blue gun
