TN CCW renewal in less than 20 minutes

I mentioned that it was time to renew my carry permit and a friend of mine commented that it would take forever. When I got the permit it took less than 20 minutes in the driver's liscence office (this is where TN handles the CCW paperwork and photo) and I expected no more time to complete the renewal. We made a bet. $20 for 20 minutes. Anything 20 minutes and over and he won the bet. Anything less and I did.

I dropped by the little driver's license office just north of where I work yesterday and picked up the form. I filled it out overnight and took it back in this afternoon around 1420. I took a ticket and as I sat down they called my number. Said "howdy" to the nice lady behind the counter and told her what I was there for as I handed the form over. She reviewed it for completeness and had me sign in her presence while she pulled up my information on the computer. She smiled and said just a moment, stepped to a printer behind her, pulled off a little printed tag and affixed it to a copy of my signed form. She handed it over and told me to keep it until my new card came in the mail and asked me to have a seat and wait for someone to take my pickture. I had no more than plopped my pudgey butt in the chair than the lady next to her grinned and asked me to have a seat in front of the blue cloth. Flash, snap digi pic taken. We chatted about the local work situation and then I told them about the bet I had with my friend. They both thought that was great and went digging for my "take a number" slip to validate my time. They then debated whether it was better to put the time from when I took the ticket to when I was called (0 minutes on their computer system :D ) or the 5 minute time it took for me to finish with the submittal or the additional minute that it took with the picture. They settled on the 5 minutes and wrote it down on the tag to prove that I had won the bet. I think I'll spend the $20 on flowers for their office.

I ain't taking any bets about how long it will take for the new card to come, but it hardly matters since the tagged form serves regardless.

Outstanding!

When I got my Colorado permit to carry concealed hand guns, I was told it would take four weeks to a month. It took three. I was told my permit would be valid for a year. The sheriff extended it to four years.

What a country!
