My letter dated 10/1
Hi Mr. Dean,

I have been following your candidacy with
great interest. I am curious about the Bush
admins lack of enforcement of existing gun
laws you mention. These laws are
important to maintain order in our society,
which 20 of the 22 major federal gun laws
are not being enforced? What will you do
to correct this dangerous situation?

The reply I rec'd today:

Dear Andrew,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with Dean for America. Governor
Howard Dean, M.D. believes we should keep and enforce the federal gun
laws we have, including the assault weapons ban and the Brady Bill, and
close the gun show loophole using Insta-check. Beyond these laws,
Governor Dean believes the states should decide for themselves which
additional gun control laws they want because what is required for
Vermont is not sufficient for New Jersey or California. Vermont is a
state with many hunters, but low on violent crime. New Jersey also has
some hunters, but is higher on violent crime. Clearly a
one-size-fits-all approach to gun control would lead to either
over-burdensome legislation or insufficient legislation.

Thank you for your continued interest in Dean for America. We look
forward to earning your support.

Sincerely,

Dean for America

My reply today:

Thanks for the courtesy of a reply, unfortunately I already read the info you provided me on your website word for word.

Mr. Dean stated that the federal govt under Bush was only enforcing 2 of the 22 major laws on the books regarding Guns.

I want to know which 20 major laws are not being enforced.

Unless Dr. Dean is just like all the other spin meisters running for office, and just making up sound bites, AKA a LIAR.

I have no doubt that I will get the exact same letter in reply a week from now.

That tells me he's just like all the others, and not worth of my vote, or endorsement.

Thanks for helping me to decide who to vote for.

Halfway smart representatives of the Democratic (sic) party are backing as far from the so-called "gun control" issue as possible: they're aware is was one of the deciding factors in Liar Gore's richly deserved defeat in 2000. Just because they're double-talking and/or keeping their mouths shut doesn't mean their agenda has changed, still less that they've suddenly decided to support the Bill of Rights. It just means some of them are clever enough to learn from past mistakes.

That saidâ„¢, I doubt Howie has what it takes to be the next Mondale.

Just because they don't say they favor gun control doesn't mean they won't spring the issue latter. :barf:

Dean has in fact quite clearly stated he favors gun control, and will encourage the states to enact their own laws on top of the federal ones.

In addition he's going to enforce the 20 or 22 major laws that are not enforced now.

Wonder what those laws are??????????

He loves the BBBBaaaaaaaaarady bunch, he loves closing the Gunshow loophole, and he wants a new AWB.

At least they wrote you back. I've been writing to the DNC and Democrat committee chairs urging them to stop supporting gun control and have yet to get a response.

Wow, talking about Howard Dean just makes me want to go off on a three page rant. The good Dr. Dean tried to make VT a perfect liberal dream state. He was one of those politicians who truly felt that he knew best what was good for the poor dumb herds and he was always happy to tell us about it too. During his many years in power here, Dr. Dean made it clear that we were the subjects and he was our savior. He was in the back pocket of the strong left feminist groups; the kind of people who believe that all men should spend some time behind bars because they are natural abusers. (This from actual writings of his supporters!) He had strong support from the groups that would like everyone to believe that they are a victim of something. OK, Ok you get the picture- I'm not a fan.

He only ever brought up gun control reluctantly. You see, in VT, pushing for more gun control is political suicide. Many politicians have had short careers here because of that issue. Peter Smith was elected to Congress stating that he would not have anything to do with pushing for any more gun control. Not long after he went to Washington, he co-authored a gun control bill. He was not re-elected. Many local politicians have suffered the same fate. The smart ones will spew out their liberal causes, but leave the gun issues out of it.

Well good for the Vermont gun owners. Everyone knows to stay the hell away from the gun issue or die politically. That it were only so through the whole country . . . then we could get down to debating real issues.
