Is Anyone Finding Ammo Difficult to Find?

I've got several outstanding orders with Georgia Arms, and even though I've received confirmations of my orders, the operator I called yesterday said that neither were registered on their computers. Then, today, my brother sent me an e-mail saying: "ammunition sales are being choked off to all retail outlets. Pretty soon the stock of ammo will not be replenished. When the stores run out, that's all there'll be."

Sounds like typical Internet rumors to me, but most outlets do seem to be a little low in supplies.

Is this just fear of Obama, or is there a shortage caused by other things?

Have manufacturers stopped producing ammo? No.

There will be ammo.

Is Anyone Finding Ammo Difficult to Find?

No, I can still find it in my garage.

Some folks are buying all they can get their hands on, at any price, thinking they won't be able to get any later. This has been going on since November elections. Hopefully, at some time in the future, things will slow down and retailers will be able to replinish their shelves. Until then things will be slim in most areas.

I made an entry on another thread in which I got an email from Winchester stating they are running 24/7 on ammo. Byron

I send my fired casings to Mastercast and they send me remanufactured ammo for 2/3 of the cost of Winchester white box at walmart. Like $11.50 for 50 rnds of .40 or .45 delivered. One week turn around time. Check it out:

Seem like there is more ammo around here now, but, the price has went ski high.
Same with the guns.

Walmart is starting to show some 9mm rounds lately, although still a hot item. People now get just a couple of boxes and then left some for others, unlike before that 1 person will buy the whole 9mm stock of Walmart due to panic buying.

I attribute it to more than panic over availability. A lot of people have just decided it's time to get the gun while they can, and when they get the gun, they want to shoot it. I think that early this summer, there will be pyramid stacks of ammo on sale at the shows and stores.

Not at all.

I believe everyone is having trouble right now. Fortunately, I am not in dire need, and I have plenty of components on hand as well. Those of us who have been through this sort of thing before (although not to this degree) have learned to stay stocked up a little better than we used to. :)

Reloading is my number one favorite hobby right now...but I did peek locally forsomefactory 9mm for a review. I found ONE box of 124 gr Golden Sabres...one. No 45, no 38spl, one box 40, no .32 no 380, nada 7.62x39mm, (not even the ultra expensive stuff), and no reloading supplies.

I live in southeast Washington state, and our little hardware store has been getting calls from as far away as Texas looking for .380acp. I live less than a mile from the ATK/Speer bullet factory, so it seemed ridiculous that I couldn't find 9mm for a couple months. Now it's starting to appear on the shelves again, but unfortunately for the .380acp shooters, it is the same production line as 9mm and they won't produce .380 until they are caught up with 9mm. Too much lost time in switching the line over.

In Western Oregon, I'm going on three months of fighting the hoarders in an effort to scrape up enough 9mm to make a decent day of it at the range, with no luck and no end to the madness in sight.

I'll say it again: Stop it, people. Please. Leave some for the rest of us.

Thank you. It's out of my system for another day, at least.

What is this "ammo shortage" that you speak of??? Like EMT40SW there are no problems with my ammo supply either. I have between 500 to 1000 rounds/caliber of .38, .357, 9mm, .40 and .45...all from www.mastercast.net:) I am working my way through 5000+ rounds from these guys...with only 1 single problem (.38 case split after firing).

Another reason it is difficult to find is that there are folks out there that are taking advantage of the current situation and buying everything they see to resell at gun shows. I've heard reports of 50 rounds of .380 priced at $60-$70.:fire:

I did see a brick of 1000 mini-mags at walmart and snatched it up today. (I wanted some rimfire training anyway.)

Dick's had 9mm, .45 auto, .308 and .223 yesterday. First time in a while all my fave calibers were available on the same day. UMC 9mm was on sale! I bought one box of each so someone else had a chance to hoard the rest.

A gun store in San Diego got in a few dozen cases of 9/40/45, and as of today still had some. I stopped by on Sat. just to see if they had ammo, and after hesitating decided to pick up 1,000 rounds of 9mm - I didn't want to be part of the hoarding herd .... but the price was decent (same price as my back-ordered WWB 9mm from Cabela's, and without shipping costs, of course).

One of the workers said their distributor contact told them the pipeline was empty as far as he could see, so they might not get any more shipments for a while.

Today I stopped by another gun store, where they were charging $22/box for PMC Bronze (!!!!). Very disappointing, as I like the people there and they have one of the best selections of 1911 models in stock in the area.

It's all academic for now - as I'm still waiting patiently (two months and counting) for my SA XD9 to arrive ..... so I'm experiencing, fully, both parts of the Great Firearms Panic of 2008/2009.

Went to the range on saturday. They were out of .357 ammo. I don't know how to load my own but I'm gonna learn.

Not really. I just go to Slims shop and get what I want. 410, 12 ga., 38. 357, 9mm, 44's and 45 + all the rifle ammo I need.
