What type of nut is these on these rings (and others)?

Burris Xtreme Tactical 1 Rings.

Has anyone had to lap theirs much if at all?

It's a 1/2" hex nut. The recommended torque is 65 in/lbs - 100 in/lbs. Some might need to be lapped. You can tell by gently setting your scope in the rings after they have been mounted. You should be able to move it around freely in the rings. It shouldn't bind or stick. Check the inside of the rings for any dents or raised places. Those should be smooth out if there are any. They are very good rings for the money.

Here is a Remington SPS 700 Tactical with a EWG 20 moa base, Burris XTR 30mm Low rings and a Monarch X 4-16x50mm scope. Stock replaced with a HS Precision vertical grip stock and has a Arms Tech mag xtender. This will give you an idea how your scope should be mounted.
