my Local shop has a 4 inch Stainless Colt Trooper in .357 mag.

Here is the rub. It is an apparent Suicide gun. As you know using a firearm for suicide leads to bad things for the Gun as well as the person. The outside is badly pitted It is the worse on the barrel with only minor pitting on the frame. I can of course have it Durafilled and Duracoated for a beautiful finish. However I want to make sure it is worth it.

They are asking 279 for the gun and won't budge on this price and it will take at least 250 to do the refinishing.

Would this be worth it or not?

I learned long ago that you don't buy a gun you can't live with as is. A nice one is $450-$500 or so. Why mess around with a damaged one that will never be totally right no matter how much you spend on it?

Sounds like a $100 gun to me.

Stainless Trooper ???
They ( Colt ) made a couple prototypes in stainless, otherwise they were Blued or nickel.

It was probably nickel. but the finish was so badly pitted that you could not tell honestly.

It also depends on WHICH "Trooper".
There's the original Trooper, which is the same action as the Python, then there's the Trooper Mark III, and Mark V.

The later Mark III and V guns would be worth a little less then the older original Trooper.
At a price of $279, and another $250 for refinishing, you'd be WAY better to pass and look for a gun that's in good shape to start with.
For that money you could buy a really nice Colt in original condition.
