Can anyone recommend a smith in the area?

Right now, I am looking to have the forcing cone lengthened in an 870; but, generally, I'd like to find someone local I can trust to work on my guns.

thanks for your help

There used to be a fantastic gunsmith/pistolsmith in Oostburg, Wayne Schuett. Graduate of Colorado School of Trades, great stockmaker, machinist, a true artist. Chambering/reaming etc. was one of his demonstrated skills. I'm sure he could handle the forcing cone on an 870. I've lost track of him in the past five years but I'll see if I can't get his address/tel. no.

Kolar is in Racine WI, they do shotgun work and do really good shotgun work. There is a fella named Potter out at Boxhorn gun club in Muskego WI that does good shotgun work. Gander Mountain in Wilmot WI has a couple really good gunsmiths, and a couple that are just OK. They can handle recoil pads and things like that without a concern though. There is a good 1911 smith in Racine too but his name escapes me right now. Basically anything you want done is available, you just have to know who the right guy is.

For the simpler jobs and general gunsmithing the shop at Gander in Wilmot is probably your best bet. For special projects there are some real artists available.
