Of course, they wouldn't let me buy ammo at the same time as the gun. I was walked to the door with the gun held by a manager, and told not to come back in the store (I guess for the day).

It came with a cheapie silver 4x20 scope which I promptly took off.

That's too bad. When I bought my Henry Lever Action 22 from Wal-Mart they offered me ammo and cleaning supplies.

Congrats on the new Marlin 60, they rock!

Don't be so quick to dump the scope that came with it. Give the thing a try first. Nice gun BTW.

That scope looked like it belonged on a Daisy air rifle. Really.

Huh, what?? Come on that can't be right. I'd contact a regional manager to find out for sure on that one, sounds bogus to me. What if you wanted to go shooting with your kid that afternoon...they'd make you go somewhere else for ammo? I had no issues buying a Plinkster and a brick last time I was there, a store in VA.

Last month I got a Remington 770 .308 and 2 boxes of ammo from Walmart. The manager carried it out for me also.

First let me say nice looking gun, have one in blued. second I also live in Houston, when i bought my mod 60 (at academy) I was also escorted to the door by the manger holding the gun. At least I got to get ammo at the same time though. I thought it was weird but he said it was store policy. I do have to admit that the part of town i was in did have a high crime rate (after Katrina.) Oops did i say that, :uhoh: well amy ways nice lookin gun.

How much?

I bought a 30-30 lever from the local walmart and had the same exact thing happen to me.
Couldnt buy ammo and had to put the gun in the car or take it home before returning to the store

Price was $197 plus tax = $213 out the door.

Looks like Marlin has a new Owner's Manual format?

No big deal but I'm interested.

I'm jealous. That has been a rifle I have been looking for for a while. I have been hoping to find one used though. Still enjoy that thing. It should be a ton of fun.

Min,

At which Walmart did you get that Marlin? I'm just wondering which Walmart still carries guns here in Houston...

I just bought a 336 at a local Wal-Mart. Got escorted to the door by the manager. No big deal. They didn't say anything like "don't come back" but it was obvious my wife and I had finished our shopping. I would think they mean don't bring the gun back in, lock it in your car or something. I don't know if they would have sold me ammo or not, I didn't try. If they had said no, I'd have let my wife buy it for me.

Nice looking Model 60. I've always said I don't like their looks but they're starting to grow on me. :what:

After all. They are a 22.... :D

I don't know what kind of scope came with your rifle, but I've got a couple of little 3x7x20 "22 scopes" that work pretty well. They, too, look like they were made for a BB gun, but they work.

Back whenever you could buy a Henry for $99 was when I bought my last gun at Walmart and the manager had to carry it out for me. I asked why and he said at a store somewhere a guy had bought a gun and ammo, loaded it and fired it in the store. So now they had to be carried out by a manager. Glad you are so on top of things I said, by the way, you might want to tell the clerk who signed me out he is supposed to ask for my ID! He hadn't.

StephenT, I bought this at the Walmart on I-10 near Katy Mills mall. The clerk said there were only four Walmarts in the Houston area that still sold guns, I forget where the other three were - I think Pearland, and FM1960 were two of them.
