A gun in the hand .......

..... is worth two in the safe!!!
Just a reminder to all you CCW's ..... don't just carry on the odd occasion you think there may some risk ....... do it 24/7 or anyways, at all times possible - within the restrictions of your local ordinances.
Cop buddy of mine yesterday told me of how his BIL, who ''sometimes'' carries - was in a good and ''safe'' part of town, when whilst opening up his car to leave a parking lot (not that late either) ... was accosted by two spotty punks. One was armed and threatened him in order to get his wallet. He admits .. he ''saw it coming''. he had little choice but to aquiesce.
Had he been carrying he could most likely have had no problems .. presentation being an adequate threat to defuze things and no shots fired.
He now needless to say ''sees the light'' .. but it might just have been too late if things had gone wrong ... as it was the punks hightaled it outa there on foot and were gone.
If people laugh at me for my constant carry at home at all times ... I'll accept it .. cos I know I have my ''friend'' ..... however unnecessary it may be ..... 99.99% of the time.

I know more that a few off-duty officers who won't carry most of the time. I've tried to convince 'em, but Complacency only looks like a small critter until you try to cuff it...

Had he been carrying he could most likely have had no problems While I didnt witness the action, I will say that his carrying might not have difused the situation. It could have escalated into him getting shot before full draw. :(
Just my pessimistic $.02.
That saidâ„¢, I plan to carry everywhere legal here in 9mos plus the time it takes my permit to arrive.

It could have escalated into him getting shot before full draw As I mentioned Mike and understood it .. he ''saw this coming'' .... probably I think even before the punk's piece was out. I have the feeling that he could well have easily drawn and been top dog very quick. He is a very competent shooter .... just a dumba$$ when it comes to carrying when he can and should!!

I don't leave my spare tire in the garage, nor do I leave my carry gun on the shelf at home.

I do not plan to go to war, but I must "Stand Ready", for I do not know when war will come to me.

Just last night, my wife and I had returned from grocery shopping and saw a boy about ten walking his new Jack Russell terrier and struck up a passing conversation about the puppy when out rushes the neighbor's 100# Rottie and starts sniffing the puppy with HIS owner in a full sprint after him. The puppy is freakin' out, squealing, and managing to get his owner wound up with his lead.
We just moved to this house a couple of months ago. I went over and intorduced myself to my neighbor shortly afterward. Turns out he just moved there too.
Now, we don't know the dog or its history so I wasn't certain if it was playing or trying to eat the puppy/owner (ten year old) at this point. I calmly put all the bags I had back in the truck and stood by, hand in pocket on pistol, and waited to see if the Rottie was becoming aggressive. Turns out he was wanting to play. I went over after the boy managed to unwind himself and continue walking to meet the Rottie since this was my first oppotunity to do so. Sweet as a kitten.
I bring this up because before getting this mouse gun, I would normally have not carried in the garb I was in (gym shorts and T-shirt). I would have only attempted to shoot/stop the dog had he gone for me or my wife or the kid. Not sure I'd have been to comfortable/justified in doing so for someone else's puppy.

I deliver papers from ~ 2am to 5am. and you can bet your sweet bippy or any other body part that my Kel-Tec P-32 is in my pocket. That is unless the P-11 is in there, then it would be a little crowded.
I feel I'm relatively safe most of the time. However there is one rack I fill that it one the edge of a "bad" neighborhood. When I drive up into the parking lot I'm always looking around for other people and assessing dangers. I've considered what I would do if accosted and have a good plan worked out.
I also service a 7-11 that gets a lot of business, they are near one of our Universities, so the Campus Police are in and out of there a lot. But the clerks are so young and sweet I feel protective. There have been a few times when I've seen "unsavory" characters in the store, or hanging in the parking lot. I just sit in my truck, rolling papers, til a cop shows up or the characters move on. Just doing my part to make my town a little safer.

As Hank Bowman sez, a pistol is like a seat belt. You have to wear it for it to help save your life.

I couldn't agree more. Most of you know why. The people who say, "Most strangers are good" are wrong. We're out numbered by the bad guys. I believe that.

Initially I did not carry daily. In fact I had my CCW permit for a couple of years before I did carry. Then commonsense set in, & now I carry daily (except when I cross state lines). Unfortunately my job causes me to cross the state line into West Virginia, and WV does not issue out of state CCW. I hate to admit it, but a primary factor that contributed to my decision to carry on a daily basis, was finding a CCW piece that could be carried in a pocket without weighing it down & printing. For me this is a mouse gun (P-32), but I adhere to the old saying that a mouse gun in hand is better than a hand cannon left in the safe. In addition to the P-32 I have started carrying my Glock 26 in an Uncle Mike's (size small) gun pack.

Oleg's got a great picture that says something to the effect:
"Cure for Sociopathy" (Shows a handful of hydro-shock rounds)
Another says, "A .22 in the hand beats a .44 left at home. Carry!"
Carry! Carry! Carry!

I am going to feel "wierd" tomorrow, it will be my first "carry" I just got my Florida nonresident permit last week. Tomorrow I will be riding through Indiana on my new Harley. Of course I will have to stop and take it out of my sadelbag after I leave my home state, Mayor Daley's Illinois. In fact, this is turning out to be a wonderfull month for me, got my CCW, my new Harley, and next weekend is my NRA firearms instructor course. Life is real good. Jim.

Like I've told a ton of friends, "it's like wearing a seat belt, you never know when you're gonna need it!"

I used to carry all the time because of agency regulations. Now I carry all the time simply because the world is so unpredictable. I am thankful that Texas has a good CHL law and that my honest neighbors have the option of self-protection. My UNgood neighbors never observed the law anyhow. ;)
Pistols are like seat belts, parachutes, PFDs, fire extinguishers, and other emergency gear. You can go a lifetime and not need one, but when you DO, you need it RIGHT NOW, and no other device will serve as well . . . .
Best,
Johnny
