Question about Remington 1100

I recently acquired a more than a little used 1100. The price seemed to good to be true and someone whom I trusted both as a friend and a gun expert told me it was in good mechanical condition. I had only had it about a week, and took it to a function that I thought was going to be a sporting event. Since I was never planning on using it for a skeet gun I took the barrel down to 18". Since a skeet competition presented itself I decided to "run what I brung" and make the best of it.

I was given 10 shots to get used to the gun since I had never shot an 1100, and had never shot a shotgun with a ramped vent rib barrel for that matter. I had previously shot a flat vent ribbed barrel and averaged better than 8 for 10, with numerous 10 for 10. So I was confident that I would be able to compete.

The ramp on the vent rib through me for a loop, that was surprisingly different! When I went 1 for 10 I knew something was truly FUBAR. Here is my problem:

It seems this little nubby is out of round and isn't doing it's job any longer.

The barrel has about .050" play both to the left and the right. .100" of play at the receiver really gets funky out at the end of the barrel. These pics. will give you an idea of what trying to shoot this was like:

I tried to use the foregrip to keep it straight, but every time I fired it was moving. I tried to twist the receiver so I could line up the barrel, but it was impossible to do all this and get familiar with the ramp in 10 shots.

Is there any way to repair the receiver, the slot on the barrel doesn't seem to be the culprit. Which is a shame because if I can keep this I will be getting a slug barrel with rifle sights! If I can get this barrel to pick a direction, I will get familiar with it. I want to be able to use just about anything, I highly doubt I wiould prefer this set up to compete or defend my life though.

My first post here is done, now back to scouring the site for other good info.
I probably won't be posting often, you have two ears and one mouth for a reason. I'm glad I found this site, I'm still having withdrawal symptoms since the firingline froze itself in time.

YEP ! Looks like too much play for me also !

Assuming the barrel extension slot is OK (you might varify that with comparing dimensions with another 1100 barrel installed on your reciever) it looks as you might have one of three options. 1.) I don't remember for sure but think the stud is a factory installed piece pressed into the frame. My parts listing doen't show this as a seperate available part but you may check with Remington or a local smith to seek replacement. 2.) You may be able to peen the stud to take up the slack 3.) you may be able to sleeve the stud to eliminate the slack - thinking of getting some small brass or steel tubes from a hobby shop of the right size to fit over the present stud that could be fitted to the correct OD and either soft soldered or epoxied onto the stud to enlarge it.
Maybe someone else has a slicker way to correct ? Good luck !

ps: elongating the stud up & down may be another way to take up the slack .
