I hate my Sistema!!!!

My first 1911 was a $325 sistema, I broke it in, added a new hammer and grip safety, new wrap around grips, full length guide rod.
I figure its good for a starter gun then I can maybe look at a kimber, Springfield armory, Wilson etc..
Got back into reloading and after trying 3 different loads and made up a few thousand rounds of .45acp that seemed to be accurate enough for practice.
The Sistema shoots ragged one hole groups at 25 yards.
I was busting beer bottles hanging from a tree at 50 yards.
The sistema has had no functioning problems whatsoever.
I cannot justify buying another 1911 type gun and if I did spend the money
it would have to live up to my beater 46 year old surplus 1911
from Argentina.
This gun has ruined it for me and put a kibosh on my grand plans for a
collection of Colt 1911A1 pattern pistols.

I have a little $279 star PD that wrecked me for compact .45s.
It's a shame, really.
I like 1911s but there's just no way I can justify spending twice as much on a 1911 and have it as good as that old beater star PD.
Unless, (*AHA*) of course, it's in a different caliber.
Alas, my 10mm razorback.

I have not shot mine that much yet but I'm feeling the same way. But there is always room for more!:p

Now you just got to get one from each maker!!!!!
That should keep you(and me) busy for awhile!!!:what:
You can almot consider it a curse in the opposite direction, now you have to find one that equals or exceeds the Sistema!!

Kinda laughable you saying you were breaking in a 50 year old piece of iron. Great guns and built under Colt's license on Colt machines. :D

With the star I have, I kinda have an excuse, they don't make 'em anymore.
And the parts aren't interchangable.
Well, I can buy a 'parts gun' for $200, or the parts that go bad for $100.
If the 'parts gun' shoot as good as the original, however, I'll have to get another, to actually be used for parts.
Kinda defeats the whole purpose, huh?
As a bonus, 'Parts guns' come with extra magazines.

I really DID hate mine! My surface to air missle 1911 is MUCH nicer.

Need justification? Do you have one those infamous BBQ guns? What you need my good man is a 1911 that might not be able to outshoot your Sistema, but could shure out perdy it.;)

Good point!
As far as the break in period on the 46 year old gun.
I think it was re-arsenaled because it was freshly parkarized when I bought it and the gun was tight as a drum.

Nothing like finding a gun that really works for ya! Congrats on that front ;) I'm sure after a couple thousand rounds you'll be jonesin' to see if you can 'improve' on what you already have!

Thanks for the link, jsalcedo. That's a nice looking pistol. How is the refinished blueing holding up?

It would be better if I had not used friction hold kydex holster.
Otherwise it has worn well.

Welcome to the "Why would I pay $1400 for a Big Name Custom gun when I can get the same thing for half that or less, and have some history added as a bonus?" club.
I still wouldn't mind a Valtro, though. ;-)

Is Denter in business these days? I'm ready to order a Sistema but the website in down.

I built up a Norinco I paid $300 for and it out shoots my Kimber Pro Carry that I paid $700 for in '97. Got about another $100 in the Norinco now. Talk about a kick in the arse...

The Sistema shoots ragged one hole groups at 25 yards.
Lucky you! Mine shoots a 4-5" group after a trigger job and replacing the barrel bushing, barrel link, and link pin. Still better than the 7-8" group Gun Tests recorded on theirs.
I don't shoot it much at 25 yards because I find it almost impossible to get a reliable sight picture with the standard sights. Mine is good to show people what shooting a USGI pistol was like (in the 80's, anyway) instead of handling a collector piece.
Still worth $300, though.

Is the Sistema a C&R eligible gun? And where did you buy it.

I bought one for $300 from JLD Enterprises two years ago. Good gun. I've done some tweaking on mine, including, recently, a new barrel. Compares favorably with my Kimber Custom II. All told I have about 3500 rounds through mine with only a few bobbles. These pistols are very good values, especially if you're not really sure you want a 1911.

How hard would it be to replace the standard sights on the Sistema?

Is the Sistema a C&R eligible gun? And where did you buy it. Yes it is. I picked up one from Southern Ohio Gun (http://www.southernohiogun.com/) and another from gunbroker.com.

The rear sight is a 30 second change out. Just use a brass punch to
drive it out of the dovetail slot.
The front sight may require fitting and hand work best left to someone
with some proper tools and experience.

If Pachmayer is still making sights, simply buy one of theirs. It is rear sight only, no need to replace the front. Excellent visibility.
