As I talked to you guys last week about. I got my new to me S&W Mdl. 14-1 today. It looks great and lock up tight. I had my gunsmith look it over and he didn't find anything wrong with it.

I went straight to the range to shoot 200 rounds though it. My load was 158 gr. LRNFP with 3.7 grs. of W231 and a CCI primer. Just shooting free hand standing I was getting 4-5" groups at 25 yards. That is real good for me. Can't wait to load some 148 gr. DEWC and try off sandbags.

It was obivois that it has some good trigger work. I did have two light primers hits, but they fired on the next try.

Just one question. I can't find the serial number. It has big rubber grips that cover the bottom of the grip frame, could it be there?

I 'll try to post a picture later. Thanks for all the help you guys have given me.

The serial number is located on the bottom of the grip frame. It will be under the grips.

Or open up the cylinder and look on the frame where the yoke would "rest".

Thanks LTRshooter. That tip saved me the trouble of taking off the grips.

I forgot to say in the OP that the barrel is a 6" vent rib. I just got done cleaning it and the bore looks like brand new. Whoever owned this gun sure took good care of it.:p I'm working on getting a picture, if I can find some batteries.:D

6" vent rib.

I do not think the 14 was ever made with a vent rib. Yours looks solid to me. Nice gun - enjoy it.

Fabulous gun.
I've never benched mine, but once shot a personal best target (2 hands, standing unsupported) of 8" at 50yds. The long sight radius is fabulous. Now if only I could do that one-handed in a bullseye match....

I checked again. You are right, Oro. It's a solid rib.
