My father swears that jobs will continue to open up in this field thanks to an article he read in the Washington Post. I'm not so sure...sounds expensive -- $700 per course and doesn't really guaranty jobs -- my opinion. Not sure what this will get me that my B.A. in English and M.Ed. couldn't do. Anyone hear of this program? Is a joke or valid? My father wants me to consider enrolling and taking a few courses but I'm not giving the green light yet until I know if this field has potential. Love to hear from any Federal workers if you have insight. Thanks.

i have been looking into a few government jobs. FBI, CIA, Secret Service, etc. alot of the agents i have spoken with suggest going to homeland security first, because they have a much bigger budget, and you have a much easier time being hired then promoted. thru them than anyother agency.

Link to the article or more info please...

Is it through an accredited "real" school (certificate of X# classes to supplement an existing degree, or with GenEd classes could become an AA, or could be a minor or major degree itself?) or is it through a "Homeland Security Expert" MI5/SEAL/Wu Shu/former FBI clerk? Makes all the difference...

You've gotta follow the money...where there's money, there will be jobs!

FWIW:

I have a friend who started with them about four or five months ago in I.T.

She's already been promoted TWICE.

Follow the money. Hip, politically "sexy" and In The News means big budgets. The growth that's going on means rapid promotions as new people come on board. Your Master's degree might mean starting off at a higher pay grade than somebody who's only taken the basic course that you mention. Think, "supervisory personnel." Look into it and let us know what you discover; you deserve a job that challenges your skills rather than your patience. We're pulling for you!

Thank you folks for all the feedback. My father is encouraged by this and so am I. I'll seriously look into it. Much appreciated.

How about working in the private sector.

The more people who work off the taxpayer, the bigger the system gets.

If no one applies for these jobs, big government has to shrink.
