Some TV networks are showing their colors regarding the AWB now...

I was sitting at home drinking coffee this morning watching 'Designing Women' with (for) my wife on the Lifetime channel. During one of the commercial breaks, there was a commercial for a Lifetime movie called 'The Long Island Incident' (http://www.lifetimetv.com/movies/info/move3151.html). For those of you to whom the referenced incident doesn't ring a bell, it is about Colin Ferguson's (http://www.internet-encyclopedia.info/wiki.phtml?title=Colin_Ferguson) murderous rampage on a commuter train which resulted in 25 casualties, 5 dead, 19 wounded. After her congresscritter voted against further firearms restrictions in an unrelated manner, Carolyn McCarthy, the wife of one of the dead and mother to one of the wounded, ran for his seat in Congress and won. She has since had a precdictable track record on firearms legislation.

Back to the focus on Lifetime, during one part of the short clips for this movie, there is an actress that portrays Mrs.McCarthy (evidently before her election) that cries out on the senate floor something to the tune of 'People have a right to travel on the subway without being shot by assault weapons!'

The strange part of this is that multiple accounts I have found online identified the shooter's weapon as Ruger P-89. Say what you will about the Ruger P-series, but they are NOT assault weapons...

So was the script blissful ignorance, or calculated political speech? I find myself getting decidedly more suspicious of items in the mass media decrying anything to do with the AWB now that it's getting close to expiration.

Oh well, no more Lifetime for me. (There's a heartbreaker...;) )

Every weapon is an assault weapon, except those posessed by anti-gun hypocrites and their bodyguards.

If it has a 11+ round magazine its a assault rifle.

The term —"assault weapon“ must include any semiautomatic rifle, shotgun, or
pistol that can accept a detachable magazine and includes one listed additional
feature such as a pistol grip, fore-end grip, or collapsible stock. (http://makeashorterlink.com/?D22121526)

By this newly minted definition,
a semiauto pistol with a pistol grip is now an assault weapon

2+2 does equal 5

Ahh Lifetime. Or the Victim channel as my wife refers to it.

Just for fun sometime if you have satelite or digital cable, go through and read all of the descriptions of thier movies. Almost every single one of them will be something about some poor women being victimized by her husband/boyfriend/serial killer/kidnapper or whatever. Go through and read them, trust me, it is really funny. :)

What's the surprise?

Everyone knows TV networks' color spectrum runs from pink to red. :D

You'd think they'd be encouraging women to defend themselves.

That's absurd, CR_OPSO. They want more stories. :fire: The swine.

{Edited to add: and CR_OPSO, that's a shot at THEM, not at you. I just followed your phrasing because you said it clearly}

Well, they sure as heck are! They go "Bang!" don't they?

For those of you to whom the referenced incident doesn't ring a bell, it is about Colin Ferguson's murderous rampage on a commuter train which resulted in 25 casualties, 5 dead, 19 wounded. Did the show disclose the factoid that Mr. Ferguson traveled from Cali to New York to commit his mayhem specifically because he knew he would not encounter armed citizens, hence much less of a chance of being interrupted?

See, the Ruger P-series can accept 20 round magazines, therefore they are EEEEEVIL!!!!!

Oh Gawd, dont get me started on the Man Hater Channel. Everything is the fault of a guy, wether the woman gets stabbed by a random assailant in another country, it rains on the woman, or if she breaks a nail. Its always a guy's fault.

I cant stand to watch that channel. I know women who become more anti-man for a couple of hours after viewing too.:uhoh:

To be fair, I'm sure there are men who become anti-women after watching a few hours of WWF, action movies, and perhaps The Man Show. Although I'll admit that Lifetime might ought to be renamed "Estrogen-fest." :p

Moparmike
October 10, 2003, 07:25 PM
Yeah, but "The Man Show" is the good kind of estrogen-fest.:neener:

Who can stand to watch WWF anymore? I thought that sort of stuff tapered off around 12-14...:scrutiny:

Since nobody said it directly:

Any firearm that has, or could be, used in a crime is an assult weapon.

This is my version, it's all due to the media. Sorta like waiting 2 days to take a pistol home. Can take 12 gauge or 25-06 home today though.
it's all a buch of BS

Great...... Anyone see anything the slightest bit sinister in this? I KNOW we can all see the STUPIDITY...

A pistol with a *GASP* - get this, A PISTOL grip grip is now by deffinition an assault weapon.

FEAR the deadly Betetta 25 caliber ASSAULT WEAPON! (who cares if you can cover it with your hand?)

Silly gun-nut, that just means that it's designed so that a child can hold it better when he slaughters his classmates! And so that maniacs can conceal it easier! And the .25 cal round is obviously meant to kill kids, because you can't use it for hunting! And besides, it's black and thus EEEEE-vil!

That's a powerful graphic Charles. Kudos to you and your webpage.

It disgusts me that everybody you meet at the range is more than happy to complain about gun laws, but when you ask them if the are members of the NRA, GOA, GRNC or other pro-2nd org, many change the subject or stammer excuses. I try to convince them, but many don't even want to pay the $7 a year range fee. :(

We are being divided and conquered.

With the media it's either going to be an Assault Weapon, Sniper Type Rifle, or Cop Killer. THere are no good guns to these people they will use any term they want to to make thier point.

I really don't watch much TV, I don't have cable. Of course back when married and did, we pretty much didn't watch TV, except the weather channel or a old movie. We read, played games, piddled with the new house and the like. Or running the kid to and fro, and participating with his school stuff.

Now, I use rabbit ears, I catch the local news, ...for nat'l stuff I have THR and other sources. I may catch a bit of TV once in awhile. Even what little I do catch has a "negative" cant against guns. The people portraying alphabet agencies "sing the wonderful praises" of how the Patriot act is for the good of the sheeple. I even hear there is now a "CSI syndrome", jurors expecting forensics in the courtroom as per the show.

Too many years ago it became apparent the airheads wanted to hear themselves, and pat themselves on the back. Became too apparent the owners and such were pushing views , instead of unbiased reporting. Too apparent if your have the money you could buy media slant.

Reminded me of TASS news agency...so I quit years ago.

When I was in basic training I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why the hell my M-16 said AR-15 on it!

Back OT for a sec though, do you think that it's just a poorly written script using keywords to attract interest, or is there something more nefarious at play and gun-grabbing elements are attempting to snap up support for their side by hiding a hot political issue in a movie, however backhanded and incorrect?

Ignorance or malice on the network's part? How many other such attempts can we identify elsewhere?

Are we losing a fight we don't even know we're in?
