New Roader - any tips finding primers?

I finally decided to get into reloading just in time to be unable to find primers. I have searched the net to no avail on my quest. Any tips you can share on good sources for small pistol primers? Auctions are selling them for more than 8 cents apiece and at this piont I might as well buy ammo! I thought of parking my RV in the walmart lot and hitting the store evertime a truck came in.

Do it the old fashioned way - forget the computer and hit the gun shops. You'll find what you need if you turn off gunbroker and use your feet.

Pray and look in all the local stores. I just found a few 1000 primers locally in a store I just decided to walk into.

use one of two resources. 1) internet, 2) telephone. the later of the two will probably be your best bet. many small shops do not have a website.

I have found primers in small gun shops. Cabelas is no different then the internet. But small shops seem to have more, as most people are searching the larger stores.
I called a pawn shop that had large rifle primers for $22 - 1000...

Wait a couple months. I've seen this before, more than once.
The factories are churning them out as fast as they can, but there is a small percentage of reloaders out there hoarding primers.
A friend who works in a store that also sells hunting and reloading supplies told me that there are three or four guys specifically who would find out exactly when the new shipment would come in, and be there waiting with fat wallets to clean them out. They now have a sign hanging above the counter limiting primers to two boxes per customer, and powder to one pound each.
All you guys out there buying up case after case are screwing it up for those of us that just want a few boxes because we want to load a few shells.:fire:
Of course the shortage scares the average reloader who doesn't understand what's going on, and also buys a bunch because he thinks they may be gone forever if he doesn't. This just snowballs the whole thing.
So in my opinion, if you can wait a little while, the hoarders will have their cupboards and basements stocked, the suppliers will eventually catch up, and there will be primers on the shelves again.

Forget internet shopping, put your shoes on and hit the pavement. Primers are coming into the local shops if you're savvy enough searching for them.
I just picked up 7000 small pistol and 5000 large pistol primers this morning. Trick is finding out when their shipments come in and have your money ready and waiting.
